It was enjoyable enough over here. We've had some shit results away in Europe recently. It would be very useful for us to have a bit of comfort, ugly or no.

Fabinho my man of the match.

Robertson was also pivotal. Salah and Firmino were disappointing, as was Jones.

Good second half, good win!
Could have had some more goals but 3 points is all that matters.
Job done!

Just read on BBC site that we were returning to Europe as English Champions for first time since 1984. That's a very good result. Pivotal group game in which we had backup goalkeeper, makeshift centre defence and midfield, and took off our front line with 30 minutes left.

Gomez played really well.
Fabinho too.
Mane and Salah were sharp, Bobby less so.
Jota is class, fucking class. I think Bobby's in trouble if his form doesn't pick up ... a Jota --- Salah ... Mane front 3 ... yummy
Milner and Gini were great leaders.
TAA nad Robbo were solid ...
A lucky 1-0 win? Who cares, that's what we need now ...

Jota was excellent again.
Deserves a start against Sheffield Utd.
Let Firmino get a rest.

3 pts, a clean sheet, 2 CBs played well, Hendo back and Jota showing excellent form are the good points from this evening.

Haven't read the entire thread, but I was impressed with Jota and Minamino when they came on. Jota has impressed me every single time I've seen him, even at Wolves.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "It was good enough to win the game. That's what you need. I think both teams could play better football. At moments it was wild. The pitch was deep and muddy. Three days ago it looked completely different and in training yesterday it looked different.
"But we did not take our chances which was a shame. Ajax had a big one which hit the post. When you're 1-0 up, these things can happen. But overall I'm happy with the game. It was not sunshine football but we wanted three points and we got it.
On Fabinho's goalline clearance: "I don't know how it happened in the beginning. That's a good example of how the boys did today. It was not perfect but they fought brilliantly. I really liked the fresh legs up front. Jordan Henderson - the medical staff told me no 90 minutes - but he did well. Rhys Williams played non-league football last year and now he has some Champions League football so what a moment for him. Some nice stories, three points.
"Xherdan Shaqiri was lively and Takumi Minamino was unbelievable. He is like a machine. It helps when you can make five changes."

What an incredible moment for Rhys Williams, who came on for his Champions League debut. A year ago almost to the day he was playing for Kidderminster against Farsley Celtic.

Pep Guardiola has expanded on the unfortunate news about Fernandinho's injury in the post-match news conference, telling journalists he will be out for up to six weeks.
Guardiola said: "Bad news, his leg will be, I think four – six weeks out, yes it is a big blow for us with these amount of games and no people there. But it is what it is."

Liverpool midfielder James Milner talking to BT Sport: "It's always important to start well, it was a tough away game first up so that's a bonus and they're a good team. They were well organised, played good football and we've had an up and down week and so it was important to bounce back which we did and I expected nothing less from this group of players.
"Fabinho is a top player and top players can adapt and he did that. He's played there before and played very well. I thought it was a good team performance because it was tough out there, it was a physical battle under tricky conditions.
"We'll take anything in relation to a goal, we had enough chances, we were disappointed not to score more. We had a good number of counter attacks which we didn't finish off. It's a big clean sheet, with the changes we've made this week especially and they're a good team, so it was important to get the clean sheet and take the points."
