They spent last season really working on stretching him in terms of tactics and position and movement, playing him deep, out on the wings, in the hole, etc etc. Some players really grow through that, but sadly the lad just seemed to unravel before your eyes. Instead of adding to his game it wrecked it. No criticism of the process - I thought it made great sense - but it left him utterly lost.
