Adam Hammill can take his Premier League pick of Blackpool or Wolves if he decides to leave Barnsley in the transfer window.

And the former Liverpool winger has made it clear he would quit Oakwell ONLY for a top-flight club.

The 22-year-old said: “If I do leave it would have to be for a Premier League side.

“All the best players aspire to play there, and there are two Premier league clubs who are interested in me.

“But this is a difficult decision for me because I’ve got to weigh up how much game time I might get if I move to a top-flight team.

“I’m getting regular football at Barnsley and I really enjoy playing for the club.

“I am not going to rush my decision whatever happens.

“I won’t move for the sake of it and money will definitely not be a motivation because that would mean I am leaving for the wrong reasons.â€

Hammill’s stance rules out any hope promotion-chasing Championship outfit Nottingham Forest had of luring him.

The Tykes revealed last night that the Seasiders and Forest had joined Wolves in the chase for their eight-goal leading scorer.

A Barnsley spokesman confirmed: “We’ve had two offers for Adam, from Blackpool and Forest. We are also expecting to get one from Wolves, although they have not made an official approach as yet."

Holy fuck. Blackpool, nottingham Forest and Wolves are leading the chase for a 500K Barnsley starlet, and we're *not* involved.

WHAT THE FUCK'S GOING ON.

Having seen him quite a few time for barnsley the one thing that is missing from his game is consistency (despite Robbins suggesting he had added that to his game now). He still goes missing in games but he's still a better option than Maxi or Jovanovic in the wide left berth.

Hammill having Wolves medical tonight. 500k deal. Could have re-signed for #Lfc for 350k because of a clause. Might have been worth punt.

That's a bit shit.

Turned down Blackpool and Notts Forest expects to sign for Wolves and debut against Liverpool at the week-end.

However rumours also began circulating that Everton were in talks with Barnsley and Hammill's advisers over a potential move to Goodison Park during the January 2011 transfer window. It is believed that Hammill would prefer a move to the Toffees despite being a lifelong Liverpool fan. He also said being like a Liverpool fan is like hell.

I just wish there were some way to move that mountain of shit we call Liverpool players and to have the money to get good players.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is ready to sign Barnsley’s exciting Adam Hammill in a bargain £500,000 deal today, despite late interest from his old club Liverpool.

The 22-year-old Scouse midfielder was tying up a chance to sample Premier League football last night after earning rave reviews with Mark Robins’ team in the Championship.

McCarthy hopes to complete the deal quickly after Liverpool counterpart Kenny Dalglish sent spies to watch former Anfield youth prospect Hammill in action last weekend.

Barnsley are being forced to cash in because of a fixed price clause in the player's contract.

Hijack the deal Kenny.

Suarez
Good winger
Hammill
Good DM

that will be close to a perfect transfer window.

"I'm really pleased that we've managed to bring Adam in," said boss Mick McCarthy.

"He is a creative player who can provide chances for others but can also score goals and has done that wherever he has been.

"He is a very good player who will add to our competition for places and prove a valuable addition to the squad."

CEO Jez Moxey added: "We are delighted to have completed the signing of Adam Hammill.

"He is a player who has been on Mick McCarthy's radar for some considerable time, and is at an age where he has the potential to perform on the Barclays Premier League stage.

"He has already scored eight goals this season for Barnsley, and we were pleased to beat off several offers from other clubs to acquire his services on a three-and-half year contract.

"We are also confident he will perfectly fit into the dressing room culture and team spirit which has become such a crucial part of Wolves under Mick McCarthy and will continue to stand us in good stead for the battles ahead."

Good luck to the lad!

I look forward to seeing more of him. At least if he really thrives, we should have a slight edge in trying to pick him up.

“I like to create chances and run with the ball and try things that are different,†said Hammill.

“I also like to chip in with goals and have already got eight this season.

“Wolves are a massive club and I’m looking forward to playing my part.

“I think my ambitions go hand in hand with the club.

“I’m really keen to play in the Premier League and the club are keen to establish themselves here.â€

Hammill’s agent Tamas Byrne already has Richard Stearman and Sylvan Ebanks-Blake at Wolves.

“My agent has got a few players here already and they all say how much they enjoy playing here,†said Hammill.

The winger is also looking forward to dealing with McCarthy.

“I’ve heard he’s honest and will tell you things you don’t want to hear at times, but he’s straight and fair which is what everyone wants,†he said.

So Wolves have some kind of advantage over other interested clubs before hand. 😛

We really should have brought him back.

LIVERPOOL’S win at Wolves will forever be known as the Andy Gray game, when he and Richard Keys got sacked for sexist comments about a lineswoman.

But not for Adam Hammill. Instead, it was the day he played in the Premier League for the first time and proved Liverpool wrong.

When Anfield chiefs let him go, Hammill, 23, went to the gym with his dad and his two brothers and boxed out his disappointment. Rafa Benitez was manager but it was not him who told winger Hammill his career was over at a club he has supported all his life.

“I rarely spoke to Rafa, which was disheartening,†he said.

“I got called into a little room and it was left to Rafa’s staff to tell me, Jack Hobbs and Paul Anderson that they had had some interest in us and as long as they could get some money, we could go.

“Liverpool let me go, in my opinion wrongly, and so it was good for me to show them something by making my Premier League debut against them.

“I’d joined at seven and was there until I was 21, and I was in the FA Youth Cup-winning team in 2006.

“A few lads from that side are with Accrington Stanley now. A few more are out of the game. When Liverpool told me, I just looked on it as one person’s opinion.â€

Hammill joined Barnsley, where he had previously been on loan, and where he says he benefited from one-on-one coaching by manager Mark Robins rather than just being one of many with Liverpool.

“I’d always thought the day I left Liverpool I’d be upset, but it was a different emotion,†he added.

“I said, ‘Look, I’ll prove you wrong’. I could have let it hit me, but instead I used it as ammunition.
And I would go off somewhere I was wanted.

“I just went home to my girlfriend. I could have easily moped around. But the first thing I did with my brothers and my dad was go down the boxing gym. I had a session there and got a little bit of anger out.

“If I’d stayed at Liverpool I wouldn’t be where I’m at now. It had come to a full stop. I wasn’t getting a chance. It might have been different with a different manager, but I’m better off where I am.â€

Wolves signed Hammill for the £500,000 get-out clause in his contract in the transfer window. Now he has another fight – keeping his new club, and himself, from dropping out of the Premier League. Of the four games he has been involved in, Wolves have lost three and won one – against Manchester United. It has been beer to champagne in a month, but one-off glory will not save them.

They have beaten some big teams – Chelsea, Liverpool away and Manchester City, plus United – but Sunday is a very big one, a relegation Black Country derby over at West Brom.

Hammill was told just how important it was on the train journey back from the defeat at Arsenal last Saturday to his home on Merseyside.

“I spoke to some Wolves fans about the West Brom derby,†said Hammill. “One of them was talking about the game when Steve Bull got a late winner [1989] and told me to look it up on YouTube.

“They say if you get the winner against Albion, then you are a hero for ever.â€

Bobby Charlton said after Mick McCarthy’s Wolves had ended United’s 29-match unbeaten league run that it would be their players’ most important day, the highlight of their careers.

“I don’t see it that way at all,†said Hammill. “We can still write our own scripts and aspire to better things. And if we beat West Brom, then that drags them right into the relegation battle.

“I have been to a lot of Merseyside derbies, and the away ones are extra special.

“We won 3-0 at Everton and Stevie G [Steven Gerrard] scored and ran past their fans cupping his hand to his ear. He got a few pies thrown at him for that. And I played in Yorkshire derbies for Barnsley, including beating Leeds 5-2 when I scored.

â€I remember all the feelings that gave me and the whole buzz around Barnsley. So I am looking to emulate that sort of fun during the derby on Sunday.â€

Great attitude overall from the young fella. I wonder what a difference it makes to these young kids, when a manager shows interest in them, talks to them, and also if the first team trained with them. It has to be a wee bit inspiring. Hopefully we'll do a bit more of it..
