I guess you're referring to the 3 ex-Liverpool players? Putterill was suspended for a long time over some shenanigans but is back in the team and looks very good at this level. Lindfield is nothing special and I'm a bit unsure how Barnett is performing at present, but as I haven't heard anything he's probably just doing okay as he gets a regular game.

hahaha.

So they have lots of former Liverpool youth players. Why is that strange?

Accrington is relatively nearby you know

I find it more saddening that our youth setup has consistently produced players that are at Accrington Stanley's level.

Come on 8 players and like 16 former players?

It's like Accrington is the Liverpool D team.

That's why Heighway was fired.

they are a feeder club on Football manager.. As is Crewe..

However.. Im unsure if there is an actual written agreement between the clubs.

Oh well that explains it.

JIMMY RYAN is putting all talk of a stunning move to Spain to the back of his mind as he focuses on helping Accrington into League One.

The former Liverpool trainee has been linked with a shock switch to Real Zaragoza
after impressing at the Crown Ground this season.

Ryan has been an ever-present for Stanley this season and he has chipped in with 11 goals from midfield to spearhead their promotion bid.

The 22-year-old admits he was flattered to be linked with a move to La Liga, but knows his main focus has to be on helping Accrington to the third tier of English football for the first time.

He said: “The first I heard about the Zaragoza thing was when I was at training and I got a few texts off my mates asking me about it.

“There has been some good banter with the lads about it.

“It was flattering and of course I would be interested in moving to Spain and coming up against the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It would be a dream move but I am an Accrington player and I’m focused on doing my best for them.â€

This season’s League Two play-off final is to be played at Old Trafford and Ryan has good memories of playing at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ryan was part of the Liverpool youth team that beat Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup final in 2007 at Old Trafford.

He added: “The place holds good memories for me and I would love to win there again with Accrington.

“Winning in the play-offs at Old Trafford would probably be a better feeling than winning the Youth Cup because winning promotion to League One with Accrington would be an amazing achievement considering where the club has come from.

“First of all we face Stevenage and that will be a tough game as they have had a great season themselves, but we are confident we can go all the way.â

I thought that it was something to do with the fact they have only 3 labelled forwards....sounds like Liverpool with the lack of strikeforce (before Jan)

With Coleman's departure to Rochdale and this, think it's the end of the 'link'?

Accrington Stanley, who are they? Well it seems even Sir Alex Ferguson knows after the Manchester United boss became the League Two club's 500th shareholder.

Fergie made his commitment to the club - who achieved infamy after being mocked in a 1980s television advert - and this week, joining other holders from across the globe, including Canada, Brazil, Finland, Australia and the USA.

The two-time Champions League winning manager received a a retro Stanley football and commemorative book at a presentation at United's training ground.

He said: 'Everyone has heard of Accrington Stanley and I am so pleased to see a small community club flourishing during these times. Long may they continue to be an active and healthy member of the Football League.'

Stanley chief executive Rob Heys added: 'Sir Alex’s gesture of support in becoming a shareholder is extremely gratifying. We are not only honoured by his decision, but truly touched by his support for an historic neighbour.

'Everyone at the club is looking forward to welcoming him to our next AGM, where he’ll receive one vote as an official shareholder.'

Accrington Stanley were formed originally in 1891 but collapsed the year England won the World Cup, 1966, before being reformed in 1968.

After 44 years out of the football league, they were promoted from the conference as champions in 2006.

Shares cost £100 each and can be purchased from the club shop or online at wearestanley.co.uk
