Manchester United without a manager that will win them trophies (maybe), Arsenal solid but not winners. Manchester City with a manager that is learning the ropes, and will make mistakes. Spurs with a team of unbonded players and a manager that has yet to prove himself. Chelsea with a manager that has an aura, but who gets way too much respect..

Are we overestimating the opposition this year? I'm not saying this because of a good three game run (that would be silly) or because we are world beaters (clearly not) but because honestly, anyone could win the league this year, or finish In the top 4.

It's very unsettled. Completely open, with maybe Chelsea having an edge due to Jose. But that's it. For this reason, I think this might be our best chance in years to return to our rightful position in the top 4.

Or is this a wildly optimistic position. What's your shout on the league?

Chelsea will walk the league with City 6/10 points back and then we will get 3rd followed by Spurs Arsenal then Utd.

Not worth 2 threads though! 🙂

Chelsea - manager is one of the best in the business and have a very very strong squad. Winning team (maybe FAC, PL 1st or 2nd, maybe CL last 4 or better)
City - excellent manager, wonderful squad. Winning team (maybe FAC, PL 1st or 2nd, maybe CL last 4 or better)
United - numerous aging or unproven players, did not strengthen in the transfer season. (Top 4, CL last 8 or 16)
Spurs - a very good manager, a high quality, but not yet proven, squad. It could take too long to form a 'team' and many of the player's they bought play in similar positions, lack depth in defence and attack (maybe FAC, PL Top 6, maybe EL)
Arsenal - experienced manager, some excellent players but squad overall is lacking (maybe FAC, PL Top 5, maybe CL last 8 or 16)

We are battling for 3rd or 4th in the PL with United, Arsenal & Spurs. It's a brilliantly intriguing PL this season.

Of course but in the meantime, lets dream a little while we can. Bring out he graph! Who's got it?

We can certainly challenge this season provided we don't have too many injuries and bans. The fixtures are kind enough. We need to maintain the defensive standard set and score more goals. Our squad is stronger and has more options. We'll surprise a few.

I can't help but feel there are going to be a lot of disappointed Liverpool fans in a few months time.

I really can't help but feel there are a lot of Liverpool fans under-valuing the strength of our squad and improvement of the team over the past few playing months 😉

One step at a time; we have got very lucky with our relatively easy opening 9 fixtures giving us a chance to be at least top 4 by Xmas and maybe as few as 6 points off top. If this happens then it's up to the board to seize the opportunity, support the manager and invest another £25m-£30m of transfer funds to strengthen the midfield for a final push for glory.

I don't think our start is that easy.
So far, how I see it:
- Stoke at home - OK, winable but hasn't never been a guaranty
- Villa Away - saw this one as a toughie and was
- Utd at Home - always a toughie
- Swansea away - yet to win there I believe since the premier league started

I did say "relatively" speaking it's a decent set of opening fixtures. We don't face Everton, Spurs, Arsenal, City or Chelsea in any of our first 9 games and we played United at Anfield. Compared to the other so-called top 6 teams we appear to have the "easiest" fixtures.

Last season United were bang average, City were floundering all over the shop as were Chelsea, and Arsenal were in the same position as this year but with Gervinho instead of Ozil, how did that work out for us?

I would be happy with 5th

Well that's a little bit disingenuous considering that last season we had the 2nd best record in the PL after the transfer window (to United) and have strengthened considerably in our weakest areas this Summer.

It's total fantasy on my part, but I have a dream of us being back on a Perch this year, as yer man down the road retires - #24yearsofsatisfactioninonemoment

I'm optimistic this year. There's been massive changes at City, United, Spurs and Chelsea and that will aid both us and Arsenal. We've got to continue this good start whilst our fixtures are easy and the effects of our opponents upheaval is at its greatest. If we're still top, or close to top after ten games, then we'll be in with a good shout later on of making the CL
