Can no one ever put the name 'Babel' in their proposed line-up for any Liverpool game ever again please?

He's fucking shite, and remarkable - is actually getting worse.

Oh apparently he proved tonight why he should play on the right.
[/quote]

I'd put fucking Konchesky on the right wing ahead of him.

He's got one redeeming feature: pace. That's it.

We could have saved ourselves 11M and brought Linford Christe out of retirement. At leats that way Linford's massive cock would divert our attention and provide some form of amusement.

Have you noticed how he attempts to do something and then looks back halfway through whatever it was he was doing, like he's just remembered he has pace and is looking back to find out where it is?

Thick cunt.

Even ambivalent journalists recognise it. From the Guardian's match report:

Jay Spearing, Martin Kelly, Milan Jovanovic and Ryan Babel were also brought out of hibernation to start and, with the exception of the Holland international, all contributed to a composed, organised European away performance. Babel's display was encapsulated in two first-half moments. Released into space on the left of the Napoli area by a fine diagonal pass from Jovanovic, the £11.5m forward turned away from goal and eventually ran the ball out of play. He was then dispossessed by the industrious Ezequiel Lavezzi deep in the Napoli half and gave up the chase to retrieve possession before Martin Skrtel intervened at the expense of a booking.

I concur. Even when people jokingly put him in their starting line up I get annoyed.

I think its unfair to write of any player when he isnt given a run of (minimum) 5 or 6 games to get some form going.
Babels best spell for us was in his first season when towards the end Rafa played him for about 13 games and he played some great stuff. Since then its a game here a sub appearance there. Normally playing with the second string players (Shelvey, Spearing etc). Our fringe players dont even play many reserve games as the kids now take most of those places.
I know im probably wrong and he wouldnt get better given a chance, but im loathe to not give him one.

Oncy, he's clearly a brainless, pacy, nothing of a player who hasn't seized what opportunities he's had. And that includes of late, playing for the reserves, a run out or two in behind closed doors games, stints in his so called favoured positions of 'anywhere but the left wing' against teams like Northampton. Like he did against Cardiff City when they knocked us out the cup (for example), he doesn't need six games because he's proven time and time again that he's a small timer who can occasionally crack a shot.

He's shit.

Case in point was Shelvey tonight, came in, unexpected and did all the things everyone has said he can do, ie passing the ball around with precision and at will, with confidence.

He got a run of games last year and was rubbish. He's been here 4 years and has been rubbish. People were happy to be impressed by him in his 1st year cos he was new, quick, had a lethal shot, and was promising.

Players like Pacheco, Shelvey, Eccleston who've never had a real shot deserve starts ahead of him now. They mightn't make it but they're owed an opportunity.

Why give Babel another 5 games to show us what we already know?

He's no fucking good.

Youre probably both right.
Ive just so little faith in our last two managers im loathe to write any player off totally given they have made Torres, Cole, Kuyt, Maxi, Agger, Keane, Aquilani and others look shit at times in the last few years.

The thing is though, with all of them, we as fans could at least see what they offered, like Aquilani, he might be a shithouse but anyone could see the lad could play and had good technical ability, with Babel it's different, it's clearly a problem that rests on his shoulders, rather than whoever is in charge, I've come to the conclusion that if players need it coaxing out of them that badly, they're generally not worth it.

I agree and have argued so in the past.

Until I realised he was shite anyway, with shite professionalism.

What was frustrating to me this last summer wasn't just who we bought, it's who we got rid of, and who we didn't get rid of.

Could we get a better player than Babel for the amount of money that's been offered for him? Of course we could have. But no, we give Aquilani to Juve for free and take Poulsen off their hands. Great.

Yes someone should tell Roy and our scouts that replacing crap players with shit ones is a strange transfer policy that rarely works.

Im so tired of seeing these bad buys who everyone could see they were bad buys except for the people that matter! milk is milk god damn it!

He gets no game time and then gets thrown into a position which isnt his. He prefers striker yet doesnt get played there. Give him a break, he is better than maxi

He's been shit when he's played as a striker.

He's been shit everywhere.

Learn something from this.

I first saw Babel up front for Holland U-21s alongside another striker of similar ability called Rigters. There wasn't much in it between the two of them.
Rigters signed for Blackburn for 500k, flopped, was sent on loan to Barnsley and is now at Willem II on loan. He has scored 1 goal since he moved to Blackburn in 2007.

We signed Babel for 11,000,000 pounds.

The problem is, as bad as Babel is, and he is bad, what are the alternatives really? We've got a bunch of poor midfielders, each one offering much the same tendency to cut inside, each one pretty underwhelming.

We've been doing the same thing for two years, it's a circular parade of mediocrity.
1) We need pace, and some goals, we should give Babel a chance.
2) It's come to our attention Babel has no game intelligence and is completely inconsistent and often doesn't give a fuck.
3) Let's play Maxi, he offers some quality and can pick a clever pass.
4) Ah, it's come to our attention he's slow as fuck and often uninvolved.
5) Let's play Jovanovic.
6) He's a one trick pony, and his one trick seems to be to go on a run and then lose the ball. Why on earth did we buy him.
7) Let's play Babel.

Did we get any offers this season?

I only remember Brum offering 9 million for the bastard last season, but he refused to go or something.

It's been more or less the case for the best part of a decade, bar flitting moments from the likes of Barmby, Riise etc, has anyone held their own out there for the long haul? Gerrard?

TBF Babel was not worse than i.e. Torres has been the whole season, Maxi, Kuyt, Jovanovic etc has been all season either. Just name them, none of our "attacking" players have shown anything the whole season.

That's just a stupid defence, they've all shown it before, well at least Torres and Kuyt have, Babel hasn't. I think most are agreed regards Maxi and Jova anyway, average at best.

i still advocate jova being good, if played in a more attacking role with less defensive duties. Just a shame our fullbacks are shite

my only defense of babel is now he is no worse than maxi or meireles at right midfield, and also you can expect someone to do anything if they are getting a game every four matches but that said I wouldn't be upset if he were sold.

Its not a defence. Its an attack.... I am pointing my fingers, just in a different direction 😉 If all our forwards and attacking midfielders are full internationals and all are showing poor form at the same time and the team shows nothing attackingwise it is useless to point the finger at one of them. Adress it to the manager who cant get anything out of them.

Regarding Babel he has shown signs of being a promising winger earlier in his career. He played very well in his role during the sring in his first season. He has scored goals and he has created goals while given limited opportunities. He has not developed the way many people hoped, but to blame him alone for that when NO attacking minded people performs is a little shallow.
