A One Word Summary Of Benitez At Liverpool

I'm not really intertested in arguing the toss with you, I'm simply pointing out you know nothing about football.

I think bren is ace at picking out duds but less than ace at predicting football scores but then, who is?

Saviour? What's he saved us from? Winning things and being forced to watch loads of good players?

Alan Curbishley and Gordon Strachan for starters.

Alonso

Clearly talented, started off well, had a few seasons of mediocrity with some inspired moments of genius and one big season when under pressure which saw us get as close as we have to the title. Often slow to move when left exposed and incapable of stepping up sometimes when it really mattered.

He does pick them out early but anyone can see that Nunez, Josemi etc. are duds after a game or too. What Brendan does is keeps hammering it home to a point it becomes boring. Lucas, Aurelio, Insua for example are not good enough for our first team but they don't derserve to be painted with the same brush as the real duds.

I do like the drama it causes though so long may it continue.

I don't think Lucas is as bad as Brendan's posts would suggest or as good as Ryan's would suggest and I would suggest that they both know that.

That's a bit harsh on Alonso Mark. Some of his better games for us had been when Gerrard was injured or not playing.

Yep, they have forced each other to take the polar opposite view point just to spite each other I'd say.

And hopefully they'll soon be reunited.

I know what you mean, but I was talking in regard to the 'big games'. I know he did give some good performances (like against Arsenal in the 'Mellor' match), but he also sold himself short a fair bit too.

I reckon Lucas is good enough to play in the Premiership... and bad enough to ensure that a team don't make it into the top 4. He'd be a find if he was at Wigan, for example.

I remember a game against Everton when Gerrard was set off, Alonso was instrumental in that win. He came off the bench against Sunderland in our first game of the season last year and was excellent when it mattered. That's just off the top of my head.

Ah anyway, what are we doing banging on about Alonso. Lets move on.

Yes. Lucas is the sort of player who, if he was playing for another club and it was rumoured we were interested everyone on here would complain and say he's not good enough.

He's not AWFUL but he doesn't really do anything.

So what your really saying is that Lucas is Lee Cattermole.

Well, he does plenty of stuff, it's just not always very good.

It's not always very bad either.

It's rarely great.

A club like Liverpool should have a great player in that position.

We should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that every manager in the league covets him and every opponent dreads him having a good name.

Maybe I don't really understand football very well but when I was a kid, the central midfield position always seemed very important to me because there's no facet of the game that is unaffected by his performance. I suppose I never really moved on from that view.
