These are the options listed by The Echo :
- The old boy - Javier Mascherano: Has played centre back at Barcelona and, though Premier League is more physical, would be nice to see him in a red shirt again.
- The Premier League experience - Jonas Olsson: Always gives Liverpool problems when they play West Brom. He’s 33 now but adds height and strength to the back line. Just put him on roller skates, perhaps.
- The Bundesliga signing - Dominic Maroh: Slovenian international is a powerful player, who plays alongside Jonas Hector in Cologne. A trusted hand for the Bundesliga side.
- The marquee youngster - Jonathan Tah: Big things are expected of the 20-year-old Leverkusen defender, who has been linked with plenty of top clubs. Would cost a fair bit.
- The bargain - Martin Caceres: Uruguayan who didn’t see contract renewed by Juventus. Injury prone, which wouldn’t solve problem, but undoubted class.
