The Aquilani situation is stranger than I thought.

The thought that Rafa sees Lucas as a better player is very worrying.

Good man Squiggles I knew you would see the light

The Argies' poor WC run has got more to do with the fact that they have a fat druggie hasbeen in charge than it has with anything else. I'd agree that there are probably better candidates than Mascher for the captaincy of LFC, but definitely not that he's "not captaincy material".

Well, thats not the full article. And why am I not surprised, it's always like that when it comes to us.

In the full article, Alberto says he understands why Rafa has been cautious with him, and that his "frustration" is professional and about not getting to play and not about how Rafa has managed him.

He also says that he's very happy with Liverpool, the coaches, the players, the city and the manager.

So, thats the full story.

I really much doubt that though.

He may have been a bit to cautious with him but I'm not even sure I'd blame him.

The last thing we've needed with regards to Aquilani was another lengthy injury and who knows maybe Rafa and the staff has actullay prevented this by easing him in as slowly as has been the case.

Cheers mate.

And there's another thing. Any footballer in the world will feel frustrated when he isn't playing. This whether he's injured or not.

It's a non-story really, well, apart from Aquilani actually praising the staff and manager.

Only because it's now known he's been fit for over a month, before this article it's been a matter of guesswork.

And KHL, who knows? We know Benitez has an unflinching faith in Lucas and somehow sees him as key to controlling the game. I'd submit that you control a game by scoring goals but Benitez is all about 80% possession and 34452354 successfully completed sideways passes.

Strange to hear he may not be captain for the remainder of his Liverpool career.
Where does it say that? I cant imagine anyone else as captain while he's still playing. If he's still playing at a level in 7 or 8 years time where he can still be in the team then why wouldnt he be captain? Ryan Giggs is 36 and hes got the armband at the scum when that other dickhead is injured (which is most of the time)

Mascherano or Aquilani as captain? Fuckin hell.
We could do a sight worse than Mascher, who was the one geeing the rest up before we went out and beat the Mancs at home last season with Mascher giving a monster performance against their midfield. No-one's suggested Purple Aqui for the job as far as I'm aware.

BTW Aquilani will start against Fiorentina - Torres on the bench. Just announced on TalkSport.

"It would be extra special if I could do it as captain in the next couple of years. I'm not sure how long I'm going to be captain for - probably another two or three years. If not as captain, then hopefully I can still lift it as a Liverpool player.

There's much better candidates than Masher as far as I'm concerned.

Reina and Torres being the obvious ones.

And anyway Kuyt's clearly third in line after Gerrard & Carragher. Lucas is probably 4th.

Better perhaps, but IMO the only much better one is Carra. Stevie's not a great captain, Deadly's form is in and out, and (players' individual qualities aside) I'm not a big fan of keepers or strikers having the armband.

For my money Clulas would be a far, far worse choice than El Jefecito.

Yeah, although I think Pepe may got vice Captain if he sticks around long enough. I think Gerrard will be club captain for at least another three to four years and possibly even longer. Then, providing Torres wants it, give it to him. Like the man he would be replacing, we might need to just to keep him at the club.

Not even Mad Rafa is mad enough to make Lucarse the captain of Liverpool
that would be the end of the world as far as I'm concerned because it would mean;
a) lucas was still here after gerrard has gone
b) rafa looked at the entire sqaud and deemed lucas the best man for the job (how bad would things have to get for THAT to happen)

c) lucas has improved beyond all recognition and deserved the captancy on merit.

I wouldn't have Torres as captain. He's matured and feels a lot better about his football since his A.Madrid days but there is no point fucking with that.

Out of the current lot, it'd have to be Reina. We know he's a popular guy behind the scenes and he seems pretty passionate on the field as well. Ideally it'd be an outfield player but we've got no other candidates.

I thought Rafa was managing Alberto oh so well.

I just hope this isn't Keane Mark II ...
Jesus don't say that.

Rafa would have to be sacked if he f*cked up our biggest signing 2 years in a row.

Worrying signs.
