So we all know that quite rightly Suarez should clean up at the player of the season awards. Sturridge being a worthy close second (Although Yaya Toure will probably get it) There surely has to be a case for Captain Gerrard also right?

How mad is that! Three LFC players in the frame with Sterling a shout for young player of the year.

But look at what Gerrard has done and it's suddenly not exactly a straight forward choice for Suarez. 14 goals this season (11 pens) from a midfielder who sits deep. His transition to the 'quarterback' role (I kind of hate that term) has been inspired. Leading the way. Spraying world class balls all over the place - His pass to Suarez against the hammers for the first is just one of dozens he has pulled out of his arse this season. He's 33 and looks to be in the best form of his life. It's clear this title charge has brought out the best in him.

The title would be a fitting honour for one the finest footballers I've ever seen and a stunning season.

To me the player of the season must have been consistent throughout the season. Suarez has and so has Touré. Gerrard has been great during the 2nd half of the season.

It'd be nice for Scholes to win it this year IMO, recognition for his career and something for him to put in his trophy cabinet.
He can have ginger bastard of the year. Im bored of that title.

Why is it called "Player of the Year" when the competition is judged on a players performance over a season?

And considering the voting happens a month or 2 before the season ends, it seems redundant

He's not Even in our top 3 this season nevermind the league.

He's been superb 2nd half of the year but still way off this sort of talk

To be honest, the greatest compliment to Gerrard is very simple IMO.

He's been an integral, tremendously valuable, goal scoring part of a title challenging team in which he's repeatedly stood out as one of our truly class players.

He's done this while performing at a level about 30% below what we've seen him do repeatedly in earlier seasons.

That season when everyone was creaming themselves over Torres and his freak goal scoring, Gerrard was often seen as a support cast. He had 20+ goals and 20+ assists!! I haven't done the search but I'd be surprised if there are many other players who've ever done that in the modern era.

If Binny is bored he could let us know what sort of record Ronaldo had - particularly that season where he looked unplayable.

Gerrard is in the twilight of his career and he still looks absolute class in one of the best teams in the country. That just underlines what an astonishing player he has been for us.

With respect to Morse's table, I think most Liverpool fans' top 3 would currently be Suarez, Skrtel then Gerrard.

he'd deserve it a hell of a lot more than Giggs did a few yrs ago .

Ha, no way is Hendo ahead of Gerrard. He's been good but people seem to forget the utter drivel he churned out several times earlier in the season.

Studge and Sterling would have strong argument's to be ahead of him.

Gerrard would be happy if only one accolade, premier league champion.

Let's make this happen for our captain.

Bale only really came alive after Xmas last year much like Gerrard this season and Giggs only started 11 games the year he won it, Parker even won it for a relegated West Ham so stranger things have happened in recent seasons.

No doubt Suarez should get it though, he does it week in week out, one of the many things that makes Suarez a truly great player is that consistency, every game even if hes not up to his usual high standard he is still involved making things happen just like the last game against West Ham.

Gerrard's recognition will come when he lifts the Premier league trophy - he wants nothing more, & deserves nothing less

On recent performances, yes. Over the course of the season I'd put Hendy ahead of him

Hendo's been brilliant, but it's criminal how often he's missed all those goal scoring opportunities. It has to be a mental weakness, the same way he couldn't handle playing for Liverpool at the beginning of his career with us (throwing up before games, going anonymous, etc).
He has the technique to easily score from all those missed opportunities. Let's hope the psychologist can work some more magic with him.
Gerrard's scored some absolutely vital penalty kicks under huge pressure and created a ton of chances from deep. Easily gets ahead of Hendo for me.
