6 Nations 2011

Why did Kidney - about whom you've been quite complimentary in the past, if I remember correctly - bring him back last time out?

No idea Jules, he wasnt in the squad initially then he jumped ahead of the two nines in the squad in the match week.

I think he picks him because of his defensive value, which i think is only a bit more logical than picking a prop based on his kicking game.

Im fearful were about to have another year like O'Sullivans last one

I fancy the Scots on the handicap bet mate. Hook is a bit of a gamble at 10, i think he is a brilliant centre though. If his decision making is good i think you will win but im always wary that he plays for himself a bit too much.

The Scots look decent this year, Gray and Ansbro look promising

You never can tell with the Jockoes. They're a contrary lot who, even when they aren't overburdened with individual talent (which TBH is the usual state of affairs), can sometimes pull a tremendous team performance out of the hat when nobody expects it.

That said, I've always liked Hook as a player and would agree that he's the key.

I hate to say it but that should be a safe bet mate. I really don't know what expect from Hook, he might be aces, but he could easily be shite.

We've got the same old problems at the moment, a very decent first 15, but a serious lack of depth after that. Gatland has added a fair few talented youngsters to the squad (North, Daviesx2, Warburton, Lydiate, Halfpenny and Toby Faletau), but i fear he'll not be around long enough (if results continue like this) to reap the rewards.

You know my opinion on Gatland, you have steadily declined under him and the rugby has gotten worse.

My handicap bet for the weekend is going to be:
Italy +22
Scotland -3
France -3
[/quote]

What odds on that Rosco?

BTW, went to the Aviva on Wed. A bit soulless isn't it?

It works out at around 6/1. I did it last week for the craic and won so I'm going to do one every week now.

I haven't actually been inside the Aviva yet, I think both the IRFU and FAI are taking the piss with ticket prices so I've been ignoring them. Although I should have really gotten a ticket for Leinsters Heineken Cup QF I just wasn't paying attention when they went on sale

England could be out of sight now if they concentrated a bit more.

England are playing well.

Game over after only 30 mins

They have mate but have also been very sloppy at times. They can get away with it against Italy but the likes of France won't be so accommodating.

And what's with all the shit music when England score? I thought the rugger types had a bit more class.

Yeah thats a fair point mate, it already looks like France v England will be the GS decider.

Regards the music it's pissing me off more with each passing try.

So much for my bet ..... only saw the last 20 of the game but it was well over by then.

England look to have a very nicely balanced squad coming together just in time for the World Cup.

Shite game but great result.

Hook lived upto his pre match billing with a couple of magical moments, yet failing to control the game.

Glad to see some of our youngsters amongst the stand out performers.

I've been thinking the same for a while. England get their shit together at exactly the right time and we're improving with every game.

France will be a big test, but I think we can take them.

Yeah, it's finally looking good after seven or eight years of mediocrity. We could do with a better pair of centres though.

You've got a great one coming through (he might even be ready for the world cup). Some how you've managed to convince the youngest of the tuilagi brothers to play for England. He's just made his debut for the Saxons and not only is he very talented, he's also effing huge.

Blistering start from Ireland... Already in 6 minutes it's been a better game than Scotland v Wales.

France are going to win this in unspectacular fashion. They haven't really done much although their defence has been pretty awesome.

Ireland had the possession but made poor choices about what to do with it. Pity, but ultimately they can only blame themselves.

I have to agree JJ, we played suicide rugby today. Running from everywhere is a mugs game. You need to play rugby in the last third of the field and the rest of the time you should be trying to get yourself there with the minimum of effort. Our second try came from a long ROG touch find and nistake from France in their own 22.

Sexton got it wrong today

Everyone hates insular English - Lievremont

France coach Marc Lievremont has stoked the fires ahead of his side's Six Nations showdown with England by admitting "We don't like the English".

Saturday's clash at Twickenham is set to be pivotal in this year's battle for northern hemisphere supremacy with both sides chasing the Grand Slam having recorded back-to-back victories in the opening rounds of this year's Championship.

And Lievremont has ensured the game will boast more than its usual edge by claiming the rest of the countries in the tournament are willing his side to beat the English and deny coach Martin Johnson his Grand Slam bid.

"We don't like them and it's better to say that than be hypocritical," Lievremont told reporters at his side's training base in Marcoussis. "We have a bit of trouble with the English. We respect them - well in my case at least I respect them. But you couldn't say we have the slightest thing in common with them.

"We appreciate our Italian cousins with whom we share the same quality of life. We appreciate the Celts and their conviviality and then among all these nations we have one huge thing in common. We all don't like the English.

Lievremont's comments echo those of England lock Tom Palmer, who last week accepted his side were widely hated - a sentiment reinforced by the man looking to derail their Six Nations campaign this weekend.

"We beat Ireland yet left Dublin with the encouragement of all the Irish who said 'for pity's sake, beat the English'," added Lievremont. "With the Scots, it's the same thing. It is also what gives you strength against the English, more than just because of rugby."

Lievremont nevertheless regards England as a huge threat, saying that their players appear to be operating at a "different level". "This insular country, who always drape themselves in the national flag, their hymns, their chants, their traditions. They are people who one regards as a very proud people.

"But we are also very aware, in terms of planning and preparation, that the English are already in 2011 World Cup mode. We can feel that all of the English players are physically on a different level."
