Not sure which forum this should be in - so please move if this is incorrect!!

Does anyone know which pub in Manchester is showing the footy in 3D this afternoon. My and my friends have decided we would quite like to see it. But the pubs are top secret!

:-\

yeah seen these already - but rung em both and both are denying it. So not sure what to do. They could be under some sort of obligation to deny.

We may just end up going hunting for it in the city!!

The red lion I'm told. Most of the buses on oxford road will go there. Don't take my word for it though, just what someone text me!

Tis the same story in Dublin. No one knows which pub(s) have it on.

Woolshed? Sinnotts?

Sky said that it would be added to existing Sky HD subscribers in Q2, but the TV's won't be out until Q3... how will it work then?

I assume the TV's will cost a fortune as well?

I'm rather clueless on all this.

TV's are currently approx 12k. Some people get scared by that but a few years ago a 42" plasma was about that.

but doesn't this mean very few will buy them for years?

If so why are they broadcasting it shortly when no one will have them?

Sorry for being stupid, I just don't get it

Well it costs them fuck all to buy them, by Q2 they'll have announced their standard (there's currently two) so manufacturers wil have started mass producing them a bit more, & you'll be able to buy them for 6k in Q3, maybe a tad less, & there WILL be a market for them, believe me. My mate worked for a company that did some work for B&O when they released a 16k telly, the first plasma for home use, & they still sold thousands of them at that price.

and can they do it without these glasses any time soon?
They can do it now, the problem is the angle. You have to sit EXACTLY in line with the telly. Not feasible. Apparently they're working on it, but speaking from a physics perspective, it just shouldnt be possible.

Thanks for the insight Jon. I guess I need to see it in action!
Saw it in Newcastle, I was lucky enough to be working with someone who was working with Sky on it when we visited our office there & saw it then.

It was only a trailer type thing, a film, boxing, & Utd taking a corner as well as some ad bollocks. It's impressive, but as Brendan says, it's not earth shattering.

SD to HD is a much bigger jump IMO, cos you watch a match in SD after HD & it looks shite. 3d to HD doesnt matter to you really.

I guess the 3d picture is HD quality?
Erm, yes. Though dont get me started. I had an 'interesting' debate with the Sky tech kind enough to show me this trailer.

See it uses two HD cameras to broadcast & then sends the overlapped signal of both to your telly, so essentially there's two images, but your telly can still only display 1080 pixels, so you see half of each (I'm saying this very basically, its more compex than that), so actually, it's not really true HD, but your brain will think it is, the same as your brain will think Stevie is closer to you than the goal in the background.

He argued with me. He conceded too, I was happy.

Hahahaha. Yeah, that'll definitely work.

3D without glasses is possible on a small screen but not on a big screen, yet.

I can't see 3D taking off (at home) until the glasses are out of the equation.
