Then in January we bought Arbeloa and Mascherano.

That was a hell of a squad and we should have done much better with it that we did.

I'd fucking murder for that squad now. I think its as good as we have had since we won the league.
If we had Just signed Torres that summer and forgotten about Lucas, Babel, Yossi, Voronin etc we would have been unbelievable.

It was very good (miles better than what we have now), but Garcia was horribly inconsistent, Kewell made Darren Anderton look healthy, and Bellamy and Crouch aren't good enough to be the main man for a big club. The bench is not flush with quality either. Maybe I'm just disagreeing because I think you're being harsh on Yossi.

Agree with you Aiden that Torres spearheading that lineup would make it much more formidable. But otherwise the starting 11 is remarkably good, even keeping in mind the inconsistency and injury issues of the wide midfielders. With a striker like Torres and a little depth on the bench for the wingers, that is a title-competing squad.
