When we won the treble that year, was the idea of a treble 'pushed'? 'celebrated'?
Was the League Cup always looked at as a shit cup (until Pep arrived obviously) and that's why it wasn't lauded like the Mancs' treble is?

Football began when the PL began

Not exactly (it got more respect than it does now) but it was thought of as the no.2 knockout competition, not quite on a level with the FA Cup. For that reason, while the treble was mentioned it wasn't bigged up as much as Salford's was later on.

Shankly hadn't prioritised the League Cup, indeed we didn't enter it for a few years in the 60s, but Paisley took a different view, seeing it as the first opportunity to win a trophy and maybe take the pressure of the players as they competed for the bigger prizes. There's no doubt the FA Cup was seen as the more important. I recently saw a cover of a 1960s programme and it listed the clubs honours, with the FA Cup coming first, ahead of the league titles. I'm sure ther'd be a different order of merit now.

We celebrated 'a' treble, not 'the' treble.

The league cup wasn't the joke it is now - all teams fielded their strongest sides in it back then - but it was clearly the least important of the two domestic cups. I was respected though... I mean, when we won those 2nd, 3rd and 4th in a row, we beat Spurs, the scum and the bitters to do it. They were all real matches.
