Right, if we fail to beat Newcastle on friday we have 31 points after 19 games, compared to 25 after 19 games last season.
There is no doubt that we play much much better football, that Kenny has gotten the club, fans and players working together again and that the signs are promising.
BUT, regarding return of investment I think we should be delivering an even better first half of tbe season. 6 points ( potentially 9 ) better than 10/11 isnt great when you think of how shite we were last season.
Regarding 4th place, which is our goal this season, we were 11 points off after 19 games last season alrhough with a game in hand as Spurs had 36 points after 20 games. We had a negative goal difference of -1.
Being 3 points off 4th with all the draws we've had this season just shows how tight the league is and thst the teams around us also drops and will drop points. A win against Newcastle will set us up nicely for an exciting finish if we can adress the key area of our problems - goals.
Will be interesting to see what Henry does, opens up the wallet and go for it or see if this squad is good enough to solve the problems by themselves.
I think we have to buy a striker, and a top quality one aswell. Our 35 mill signing is looking horrendously bad atm, and we desperatly need to add some firepower to win us the games we are drawing now.
We have the best defensive record in the league and that doesnt get enough credit imho, mainly because we cant convert our own chances. But that sets us up nicely for a good finish if we can solve the goalscoring problems.
Great teams always have a great defence, so at least we are on the right track there.
A 68-70 points total will see us rightin the mix for 4th, thats we're are headed or thereabouts so get a striker in early and we might see a shedload of goals happen. Shaking things up a bit could get the others to start scoring aswell.
If we dont adress the goalscoring issue, we'll finish were we are now, 6th -7th...
