We're going against the spread, ladies...

Meaning (for those who are not familiar with US betting) if you want to pick the favourite, you have to also take the points they're "giving" the underdog. Likewise, if you're picking the underdog, they can lose by up to .5 of a point less than the points they're "taking".

Week One:

Date & Time Favorite Spread Underdog
9/10 8:30 ET At Pittsburgh -6.5 Tennessee
9/13 1:00 ET At Atlanta -4 Miami
9/13 1:00 ET At Baltimore -13 Kansas City
9/13 1:00 ET Philadelphia -2.5 At Carolina
9/13 1:00 ET At Cincinnati -4 Denver
9/13 1:00 ET Minnesota -4 At Cleveland
9/13 1:00 ET At Houston -4.5 NY Jets
9/13 1:00 ET At Indianapolis -7 Jacksonville
9/13 1:00 ET At New Orleans -13 Detroit
9/13 1:00 ET Dallas -6 At Tampa Bay
9/13 4:15 ET At Arizona -6.5 San Francisco
9/13 4:15 ET At NY Giants -6.5 Washington
9/13 4:15 ET At Seattle -8.5 St. Louis
9/13 8:20 ET At Green Bay -3.5 Chicago

Monday Night Football Point Spread

9/14 7:00 ET At New England -11 Buffalo
9/14 10:15 ET San Diego -9.5 At Oakland

So, to use the two Monday night games as an example, I've gone for both the Patriots and the Chargers to win, but for me to get these picks right, they have to win by 12 and 10 clear points respectively.

If any of your games end in a "push", meaning, in the Patriots game for example, the Pats win by exactly the 11 point spread, that basically doesn't count for or against you... It's like a draw.

So, copy the above table, colour your picks to win in red, and away we go - I'll keep a s/sheet here with who's winning as we go...

[/quote]I think i get it. I cant do colours on my phone so ive deleted the team i think will lose.

Ok, Take that Atlanta V Miami game for example... At Atlanta -4 Miami

That "-4" next to Atlanta means that they're favoured by the bookies by 4 points. So, if you want to pick Atlanta, you're actually picking them to win by 5 points or more, to cover the "spread".

So, if you think that Atlanta will batter Miami, pick them, because you obviously expected them to win by more than the 4 points that you have to "cover" to win with the Falcons.

Conversely, if you think the Dolphins will keep it really close (lose by just a fieldgoal) or even win it, pick them. If the lose by less than 4 pojts OR win, you'll win.

Another example was my pick of Tennessee in Thursday night's game... The Steelers were 6.5 point favourites, and even though they won the game itself, they only won by three, so for the purposes of betting against the spread, the didn't "cover" the spread. Therefore, because I picked the Titan, I got that one right. I would have been right, even if they'd lost by 6 - They'd still have "covered".

Does this help?

Well, week one's turn out may have been decidedly underwhelming, but the manner of Ricobats victory was quite remarkable... This was an arse-kicking, ladies and gents:

1. Ricobats: 12 - 3 for an 80% score. Very impressive, mate. Well done.
2. Whaddapie: 10 - 6 for 62.5%. Was reasonably happy with that until I saw Rico's score!
3. Herr Oncy: 9 - 6 for 60%. Not too shabby... You'd make a few bob.

I'll post next week's games and lines soon.

Sorry mate, I seem to have missed this first time around. If late entries are accepted, I'll look out for the thread in future.

Yeah I missed this too, sorry.

Probably luck for you guys that I did, given how I won this thing last year with such ease.

A few points:

1) just do a print screen of the table and then put it in imageshack or facebook and you can paste it as a proper pic use
2) show % too ... That's how the winner should be judged
3) what does the winner get? :)
