So the debate becomes drop wirtz or drop szob?

Personally I'm happy with both starting, but szob at rb. He'll be up against martinelli, and do we have the confidence on a ring rusty Gomez next to ibou?

I dunno.
Not imo. I think it's more Szobo vs Wirtz or Wirtz vs Gakpo or Szobo vs Gakpo.

Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal must discover why they are suffering so many injuries after confirming that Bukayo Saka will miss Sunday’s showdown with Liverpool due to a hamstring issue.

The England forward is set to be out for weeks rather than months after sustaining the problem against Leeds, while Arteta revealed that captain Martin Odegaard is also a major doubt for Anfield due to a shoulder injury having not trained all week. Kai Havertz has had knee surgery which could keep him out for more than a month, with more concerns over Leandro Trossard, Ben White and Christian Norgaard’s participation against Arne Slot’s reigning champions.

Looks like he's searching for a light bulb moment to solve their injury problems.

Saka out with a hamstring problem. That is some sloppy work by the coaching staff to have a top player go out due to a hamstring problem at the start of the season. Fitness hasn't been worked on properly.

Good to see Arteta keep playing games with who is available. He can't resist it. It's a huge part of his approach to games. It's sad, really.

"And I'm not gonna give you any clues obviously..." He is obsessed with hiding things so says that. Slot, in contrast, doesn't give a shit. Everyone knows his team sheet. Arteta works from the opposite end. From the shadow. From hiding things and from keeping things hidden. From making things up, lying, and setting up traps with what he says.

Would he play games with those who aren't available?
No, he can't. When they are actually not available he obviously can't play games. And you see his frustration. You can cut it with a knife. In fact, it is his frustration that is the firmest sign that they are actually not available. One thing I like about the FSG is that there's no such shit. Press conferences are straightforward matters in which facts are delivered and questions answered. Slot doesn't play cheap/dirty games. Neither did Klopp.

Odds on Isak being at Anfield for the Arsenal game? Imagine this gets finalised today if it’s happening.

If Guehi’s signing, then he won’t be playing for palace on Sunday, I’d imagine. If he plays then he’s signing on a free next summer.

It'll be deadline day. Too many moving pieces I think for it to get done officially today

To me I don't personally feel slot is using wirtz in his best position. Shouldn't be in the midfield 3 but one of the front 3 where we can make full use of his abilities. Playing him in the midfield 3 weakens us defensively. We won't win tomorrow if he continues to play him there.

That's what I said all pre-season, but people weren't having it. @Hansern 😅

I'm still not having it.

Its not like he's playing like a 37 year old pirlo. Hes very active in the press and counter attacks.

Realistically the pivot position is what should be starting the transitional attacks. Last game we had jones there who cannot release the ball appropriately. First game we had an unfit macca and a lack of DM.

Maybe play him as a LW until he adapts to the Prem?

I mean the deal gets agreed today - then medical and paperwork over next two days.

If they’re still negotiating the transfer n Monday - it’s not getting done, I reckon.

Like I said - if Guehi plays this weekend - he’s probably staying put - I don’t think he plays and then we do deal - feels too tight.

Nah. We need to be trying to get him to adapt in the position we want him in. Everyone needs to get on the wavelength and chopping and changing positions won't help anyone

If we're 6 months down the line and he's still massively struggling, then yeah, try it.

Late prediction, but I think this could be Wirtz's break out game. There's been a lot focus on Arsenal's strong defence and Eze's inclusion in the media, making it seem like the deciding factor. However, I feel like Wirtz has become the the forgotten man. I think he'll find a lot more space in this game and we'll finally see what he offers in the Prem.

If he starts...that is.

It won't happen like this, but if Conor's fit to start, I'd actually have Wirtz start on the bench, with Grav, Macca and Szobo starting in the middle.

This is gonna be another tough, physical batter in midfield at the start again, and I want the lads who know how to play these wankers starting... Then, when Macca's done, early in the 2nd, get Wirtz on, to start testing a tiring defense.

All depends on whether Mac is match fit or not, I guess.

I’d probably go for Wirtz starting and Mac off the bench mid way through the 2nd half.

Hopefully Bradley starts with Gomez subbing on for him midway through 2nd half too.

Looking more and more likely that Odegaard is missing the game (Saka obviously out) so it's Merino or Eze for the 10.

Odds
Liverpool 6/5
Draw 12/5
Arsenal 11/5

For me :

----------------------- Ali

Szobo --- Konate ---- VvD ---- Kerkez

--------------- Gravy ------- Macca

----------------------- Wirtz

Salah -------------- Ekitike ---------- Gakpo
