LFC Reserves & Youth Team Goals/Highlights

He looked like he was having a great time in that video anyways... don't think he uttered a word back to the presenter.

This article about him was dated Nov 2019.
[article]Tottenham have joined the race to sign Newcastle starlet Bobby Clark with the midfielder in line for his England youth debut next month.

Magpies boss Steve Bruce rates 14-year-old Clark — the son of former Newcastle midfielder Lee — as the club's best schoolboy prospect.

He entered the club's history books when debuting for the Under 18s aged just 14 years and 206 days this season and we can reveal that he will be involved with England Under 15s for the first time when they face Republic of Ireland and Turkey next month.

We understand that Clark would prefer to stay with his hometown club but there has been interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich over the course of recent months, such is his reputation through academy football.

But it is Spurs who are now thought to have emerged as the frontrunners, should Clark and his family decide his development is best served away from Newcastle, where concerns over the infrastructure of the club's academy remain.

Clark's dad famously scored a hat-trick for England schoolboys as a 15-year-old against Brazil at Wembley in 1988 and went on to make over 500 senior appearances for Newcastle, Sunderland and Fulham.[/article]

[article]Newcastle United have offered hot prospect Bobby Clark a new deal at the club's Academy - despite strong links with Liverpool.

The Magpies have a scholarship on the table for the son of former Toon star Lee Clark, and would like him to remain at the club where his dad became a terrace idol in the 1990s.

Chronicle Live understands that the club have now left that decision to the player and his family.

Clark has burst on to the scene in Newcastle's youth system and made his Under-18 debut at the age of just 14 and he has already represented England at youth level.

Reports have suggested that Clark is keen on Liverpool as Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on handing youngsters their chance on the big stage.

Newcastle will hope that seeing players like Sean Longstaff, Elliot Anderson, Matty Longstaff and Kell Watts get their first-team chances can offer some encouragement.

With new Academy manager Steve Harper also having close links with the first-team base and keen to offer a pathway for youth products to the club's Benton base, this season is also deemed a fresh chapter in terms of young players.

Harper is also a former team-mate of the player's father Lee after having two stints at the club with the midfielder under a host of managers.[/article]

[article]Liverpool are now owed a development fee for their lost prodigy, a statute of the English game which allows the club who honed a talent to receive some benefit.

It could be decided by a tribunal if the two clubs fail to reach an agreement.

So who exactly is Ennis?

He broke into the club’s Under-18 setup over the course of the last campaign and scored five goals in eight games.

He then went on to help Liverpool to the prestigious FA Youth Cup final and racked up three strikes in that competition for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's side before losing out to Aston Villa at the last hurdle.

In the first round, a tie against Sutton, the teenager came off the bench to score a 15-minute hat-trick, netting his first inside six minutes of entering the fray.

Boss Bridge-Wilkinson - who notably starred for Port Vale, Bradford City and Carlisle United in his playing days - said post-match: "Ethan is an Under-16 player and it was a great evening for him.

"It was his debut in the FA Youth Cup and he got three goals!

"What a wonderful achievement for him and he went on and did what I ask our subs to do: have an impact on the game," he added.

"He arrived in great areas which forward players do and his finishing was really good."

From highlights, Ennis' natural ability on the ball looks to be of an elite standard for his age.

His second-striker/attacking midfield role allows him to unlock defences with his passing and still show an eye for goal, which is certainly not in doubt thanks to his impressive record.

10 fellow Anfield youngsters opted to sign their first-year scholar terms, including highly-rated trio Kaide Gordon, Stefan Bajcetic and Calum Scanlon.

Gordon played 45 minutes against Bundesliga side Mainz in Austria last Friday as Jurgen Klopp takes a look at the forward in pre-season.

The last senior player to move from one of the clubs to another was back in 1964 when Phil Chisnall moved from United to Liverpool for £25,000.

Only nine players in history have transferred directly across the M62.

Klopp will take his side to Manchester in October before welcoming Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co in March.[/article]

I am not going to lie, this hurts. If he went to any other club, I would not care but going from Liverpool to Man U, that's not happened for 60 years. Prick!

Good way to boost home grown players number - signing them when young.

U18s beat Utd 5-0 today with the ball boy getting another hatrick

That's a side littered with talent. Think 2-3 of them could make it at the highest level. Balagizi needs to move on to the u23s. Looks way too big and powerful at the u18 level. Cannonier's movement and finishing look excellent too. What's up with Layton Stewart these days? Not back from injury?

Yes and that's without Kaide Gordon.

How Jurgen Klopp personally sold Liverpool to Newcastle United youngster Bobby Clark
[article]
Jurgen Klopp held face to face talks with Newcastle United youngster Bobby Clark to lure him to Liverpool.

The inspirational German boss, who has won the Premier League and Champions League with the Reds, is understood to have told the 16-year-old he will get the chance to be a big part of the future at Anfield.

For now he will take his place in the Liverpool Under-18 side under coach Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and play in the FA Youth Cup whilst also getting the chance to push for the Under-23s.

Klopp has shown he is prepared to give young players a chance at Liverpool such as Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott with the former Borussia Dortmund gaffer handing 30 Academy products a chance.

Newcastle have now lost the services of the England youth international and will only pick up a nominal amount of compensation.

ChronicleLive reported earlier this month how a fee had been agreed for the youngster.

His departure should be regarded as a big blow during what was supposed to be the start of a new era at the Academy but the summer has got off a tough start for new youth manager Steve Harper.

Clark's exit follows that of Under-23 coach Chris Hogg who quit his post to join MK Dons.

A short statement from United read: "Teenager Bobby Clark has joined Liverpool's Academy from Newcastle United.

"The 16-year-old joins the Reds' youth set-up after his switch from the Magpies was finalised on Thursday."

The move was also confirmed by the Reds on Thursday morning.

The first team spending has been limited but we've actually made more of these signings than ever before. They are the perfect signing as the outlay is reasonable, wages manageable and potential reward massive if the scouting team continues its succes rate. With Elliot and even Kaide making up numbers we see dividends from the strategy. The money saved goes into the wages needed to keep our top talent and more young talent wants to join.

Yeah, it's important for the homegrown status too - esp. given the English premium involved in transfer fees.
