Just announced, apologies if I've quiffed.

Diogo Jota has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool FC.

The Portugal international put pen to paper on the deal at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday to further extend a spell at the club that began when he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September 2020.

Jota adapted seamlessly into Jürgen Klopp’s squad and scored on his first Premier League appearance for the Reds, against Arsenal at Anfield.

He went on to net a dozen more goals during his debut season, including a memorable hat-trick away at Atalanta BC in the Champions League.

The forward bettered that tally in 2021-22, striking 21 times in all competitions to help Liverpool lift the Carabao Cup and Emirates FA Cup, as well as finish runners-up in the Premier League and Champions League.

“Well, [I’m] really proud, I have to say,” he told Liverpoolfc.com after signing his new contract.
“Obviously since I arrived two years ago I established myself as an important player in this team – that’s what I wanted from the beginning.

“Now, signing a new long-term deal, it’s obviously from the club’s perspective proof of the belief in myself as a player. For me, obviously it’s really good to establish I’ll be here for a while.

“So, the beginning of a new season, let’s do it.”

Jota is currently recovering from a hamstring injury that prevented him from participating in any of the Reds’ pre-season fixtures ahead of the new campaign.

But when fully fit again, the 25-year-old is looking to play his part in adding more silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet.

“Unfortunately for me I had an upset in this pre-season because I got injured [in the] last game of the season playing with Portugal,” he added. “So I was coming back in this pre-season, I felt it a little bit again. So it will be a few more weeks, I would say.

“When you fight for everything, like we did last year, you just want to do it again and to do it better, because it’s possible.

“That drive is in me and I know it’s in my teammates and all the staff. We have everything to fight for those titles out there.”

Great player to have in and around the fringes of the first team. Still think he's better coming in off the left than playing as the central striker.

90k (£4.7m per year) is what he was on before, so we can only assume it's an improvement on that. 5yr deal though to 2027.

If he plays up front for the next 5 to 6 years for the Portugal national team, it's actually a big thing for us, and deserves high appreciation all round that we have their top striker playing for us.

Amazing news. When he is fit and in form, an incredible option for our attack.

Yes he is, and I suspect he's confident enough to be thinking "If I knuckle down I can push this lot".

Been a brilliant signing although had a quiet spell last half of last season.

Well earned new contract and he's only now about to hit his prime years.

Great news. I’m a big fan. As someone pointed out above - He’s probably our most versatile striker. Left foot, right foot, noggin - no bother for Jota :)

You know, he is our best lone operator up front, think he proved that while Salah and Mane were away on African duties.

Yes, we'd have been fucked without Jota when Salah and Mane were missing. I really have a lot of time for him, and he's going to play a big part over the next few seasons, especially with the 5 sub rule.
