Hull Post Match Thread...

11 July:
"What we've done in the early part of the summer is to improve the squad. That's something I feel we've done with the players we've brought in. I'm sure by the time the end of August comes we'll be ready and we'll have a terrific squad ready to challenge."

23 August:
the bottom line is there are many outstanding players here - top, top players.

18 October:
I've got a great group here that I think will get better - that's something that we aim to do, always improve.

8 November:
We've got enough cover.

30 Novermber:
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits he is finding it difficult to give some of his fringe players pitch time because his first-choice side are playing so well.

1 December:
"There's no doubt the quality in our squad, with all due respect, isn't big enough to cope with two big players like that missing," he said

Didn't he say in the summer he only wanted players for the first team too? So he buys one for the first team, Sakho, a centre back that we've got loads of, and puts him on the bench.

Listening to BBC Radio 5 Live's 606 programme last night, it was great to be spared the indignity of Hull Tigers' fans gloating over their unexpected victory. The programme was packed with callers from Hull, but they only had time to moan about their owner's plan to re-name them the "Tigers." Many of them were so devoted to the humble word "City" that they claimed they would hand their season tickets back if it happens. The match was hardly mentioned.

:D

In fairness to Rodgers he did start the game with a few headaches. Apart from Sturridge being unavailable - a huge problem - apparently Coutinho had an ankle injury so I question whether he should have even been on the bench. I think he was a bit inhibited by it when he did come on.

Yes but we were playing Hull ! probably the poorest side we have played this year.

At least the players cleared one thing up. They couldn't give a shit about finishing in the top 4. Glad we know that now.

I don't think he grasps the logic of the situation. By saying a Liverpool team, minus two first choice players, can't beat a Hull City team, also missing one or two first choice players, then he's not just suggesting the squad needs strengthening, he's also suggesting this squad is weaker than one of the worst teams to get promoted for many years. That's a shameful admission that deserves far more critical attention in the media than it's so far received.

Is he ?

I think it's just as simple as when things go right he expects to receive the credit - he sometimes explains at length in press conferences why it's due to him.

When things go wrong it's everyone else's fault.

The problem is he hasn't got a fluky Champions League win to put in front of us so we can see through this bullshit pretty quickly with him.

Spot on - I would have much preferred him to apologise admitting that he was tactically outwitted by Bruce and he made mistakes in selection and our set up or alternatively give the team a fucking large boot up the backside than stick his hand out for more money like he did, no doubt to waste on more central defenders.

I know yesterday was bad, and it was pretty fucking dire, BUT, at the start of the season, would any of you taken 'in the top 4 at the beginning of December'? I know I fucking would of. Regardless of what the others are upto, or how far behind/infront they are, I think being in the top 4 at this point, with our squad, is marvellous.

If we can stumble through this season with some good results, some bad, and finish in the top 4, I'll be over the moon.

Jesus.

I think that problems lie ahead of defense line. When we play against clubs like Hull, i think anyone would expect us to play like a top team and not lose possesion so cheaply on several occasions like a midtable team, our CB may expect that our midfielders and forwards do better job. It has to do with mentality that we let these small teams amd their midfielders grow into confidence unnecessarily and our CB suffer.
I am not trying to hide the mistakes of our defenders here but then the thing comes down to the problem which lies with the way we are playing this season under BR. For gods sake keep some consistency for CB pair, if BR keeps on meddling there, we will suffer for sure

Arggghh! hate this.

Expect to hear that illogical bollocks from mancs or Chelsea fans.

No team flukes a CL win, its impossible to fluke.

or the flukey c l quarter final, or c l semi final or c l losing final

Rodgers just said in the presser that the team improved when Coutinho came on 'because he plays the forward pass'. So we have this much-improved squad, coached by a great coach, but there's only one player in it who knows how to play the forward pass? I don't know why the hacks let such guff go unchallenged.

He is right though, Henderson and Allen are both rubbish at delievering an end product/vital forward pass as is Sterling who is beyond rubbish, Moses although dire the otherday is capable of something resembling an end product, at least more than the other 3.

Gerrard, Coutinho and Suarez are our only genuine attacking threats with Sturridge out, thats why despite all the critcism Gerrard gets he should always be playing, preferably higher up the pitch but that looks like its never going to happen.

Frrrack that is why you are the coach you moron, Brendon. He can play Gerrard up front with Suarez and let thew whole team run for the ball like yrazy. He could have done so many things to be creative and add some goals but he doesnt do anything.
I think BR is still learning, tbf to him he aint a too bad coach, our owners and coach and the squad all are noobs.
seems like only us fans know something about football

Yeah, but that's an appalling admission from someone who managed to get a Swansea team look as though all of its players knew how to pass forward. What the fuck has been going on at training during the past year?

This past year has been good on the pitch, if we have our main front 3 and Gerrard playing we don't need anything from anyone else, they do the buisness.

With 2 quality midfielders we would see a huge difference, the squad isn't that great especially the midfield which its way below the standard required and yeah that has to be Rodgers fault, hes had 3 windows although you could argue thats not enough time for him to sort all the problems he inherited, its not really but he has wasted money so he can't complain to much, im confident he knows sorting midfield is essential and is focussed on sorting it asap, though it might have to be next summer until we get that top end midfielder.

Did he inherit a bad defence? Was that one of the many mythic problems he inherited from the hopeless cup winning team? It was indeed unfortunate that we'd been more or less relegated when he took over, but he can't have it both ways. After every time he beats the likes of Fulham he talks as if he ought to be knighted for the wonders he's worked in transforming the squad in his own image. Then Steve Bruce outwits him and it's this awful squad that he's been landed with that's bringing him down. It's real Alice in Wonderland stuff.

Yeah, but now we have City and United breathing down our necks. Top 4 my hole. Yesterday was a serious blow. There's no way we can stick the pace with United and City so close behind us now.

Its beginning to look more and more likely that Martinez did that.

Fuck discussing that game.

Fuck discussing individual players either. If you think we lost that because:

Moses tried a trick and it broke down
He didn't start Agger/Alberto/Ibe
Sterling didn't create enough
Coutinho wasn't fit

Then you've got your head in your balls.

Another game, another 3 goals shipped. Only Newcastle, fucking Newcastle, in the top 12 have conceded more goals than us.

Let's look a bit wider than Victor Moses for a second.

- We've got the second worst defence in the top 12. It could have been 5 on Saturday, just like it could have been 10 the week before.
- We've got a goalkeeper playing out of his skin every week to keep it down to 3 too.
- And about 90% of our goals have come from 2 players this year. One of whom is fucked for the next 10 weeks or something.
- Which leads me conveniently to my main gripe: Rodgers. I'm a fan by the way, but this has been coming.

About time a bit of heat was focused his way. Here fucking goes.

Firstly, as everyone else has pointed out over the last 5 pages; don't fucking bang on about having a bloated, "quality" squad for months on end, and then whinge when 2 players get injured that your "squad isn't big enough to compete".

But my main focus is on bigger, repetitive issues.

- That side isn't fit. Why are we out on our cunt after 60 minutes of every game? Why is Lucas blowing out his hole every second half of every week? Why is Skrtel lunging into tackles for the last 30 minutes of every game? Why are we conceding goals in the second half like it's going out of fashion? Why do you have 4 fucking thousand prozone analysts amongst your staff and not one trainer who's primary job it is to get the fucking players able to run for 90 minutes once a week?

- SORT THE FUCKING DEFENCE OUT. 2 and a half years you've been in this job, and never once have you put a concerted effort into establishing a defensive structure. Look how much Pellegrini is benefiting from the defensive structure Mancini put in place. Fuck the 400 number 10's off Rodgers, and find a solid platform with which to build a defense off. We're Keegan's Newcastle without Rob Lee. Yet another week, yet another back four. I'll only stop moaning if that's the back 4 you stick with for the next 3 months. Watch though, Sakho will be back in against Norwich and we'll start from zero again.

Which reminds me. SHUT THE FUCK UP RODGERS. Has one Manager ever spoke this much? It's like he has to make a headline out of every bloody pre-game press conference. "Skrtel's the best defender in the premier league over the last 10 games." No harm Brendan, I'm a massive Skrtel fan and have been for years, but that is absolute shite. 'Sturridge didn't train right, he needs to sort himself out and prepare properly.' You keep that shit in-house Brendan. 'Gerrard could play centre back'. Well, how about he shows us he can play centre fucking midfield first Brendan. Just for one week, could he cliche and platitude his way through the press? I'm so sick of hearing him parrot on. You end up looking like a cunt when you get whacked 3-1 by fucking Hull.

Oh that reminds me of the reason why I started the last paragraph actually. Last week's quote; "the difference in mentality between my first game in charge at West Brom and today is night and day". And we go and get raped by Hull, by 3 goals. Let that be your lesson Brodgers.

But most significantly, and worryingly - the structure of the team; 'The last 20 minutes of the Everton game was like a basketball game, there was no control or structure, just end to end stuff.' Ahem, Brendan? That would be your motherfucking responsibility you know. Your job. That's what you have 6 days of training and 2.5 years to instill; fucking structure, so as we don't end up looking like a pub side. We're not playing 3 games a week, we're not in 14 different competitions. You have 7 days to prepare for fucking Hull, and still Skrtel's throwing himself at blocks cos our shape's all over the cunting place.

It's not a first either. Off the top of my head; Stoke, first game of the season - missed penalty. Villa away - Benteke missing two one-on-one's from just waltzing straight through the middle. United at home, camped on the edge of the box unable to string 2 passes together the entire second half. Everton, Hull, Southampton, on and on it goes - 8 goals conceded against those 3. Fucking Notts County cut us open. You don't have to be good to create chances against us, you just have to be fit. Or have the ability to win a free-kick, cos we'll dish one up to you on a plate the second you loop it into the box.

But anyway, I want to finish where I started; that 'squad not big enough' thing. That's (as someone else said) Hodgson-esque shit right there. Fine, you had your striker injured on Saturday. Doesn't excuse the fact you had 11 right-footed players in Saturday's teamsheet. What sort of balance does that give you? Do you know how easy it is to set up a side to play against that? What sort of balance does our squad have anyway? We've got one cunt with a left foot, and he's injured, so we draft in a right-back from the fucking reserves to play there (I'm not counting Cissokho by the way, Rodgers doesn't, so I'm certainly not including the fucker). One left back we've got. And one defensive midfielder. Who can't play 90 minutes. Without falling over exhausted or getting booked. 400 number 10's, or people who you think can play there anyway, and one number 9. But you've now got 8 CB's, no fucking clue which ones should play mind you, and one right-back on $120K a week. And one midfielder who can pass the fucking ball in Allen, but you talk about Gerrard every week like he invented evolution so you can't drop him now cos you'll look like a twat, so Allen sits beside you.

There's the squad imbalance and the imbalance on the fucking pitch. Hopelessly exposed every week by any opposition who care to have a go at us. Don't be put off by the league table by the way; we've been more lucky than good.

We're easy to score against. That's a fact, not an opinion by the way. We've got an imbalanced squad, we finished 30 points off the leaders last year, and you spent a fortune on the summer Rodgers on players you now don't seem to rate, you won't shut the fuck up about anything, and we've got a team incapable of playing once a week.

How's about you just shut up for a week and do your job.
