World Class?

Everyone has their own definition but for me it the best 7/8 or so players in their position.
Means a little less than 100 world class players

Sorry but I find that a little simplistic. There maybe zero 'World Class' players in any one position at any specific time, or there maybe ten. Because we are not talking about the 'best players in their position' but about players of exceptional talent.

So you can be the best striker in the world but not 'world class'?

Isn't that a bit, er, stupid?

Well let's say they are are shite but one less shite than the others. If World Class is a definition of excellence then .. no, it's perfectly logical.

Yeah, if. But I'd argue it's not. It's a definition of superiority over the vast majority of players in the world. At least that's the definition that makes sense to me.

It's when a player bites another player, then the whole world talks about it.
Ergo, Suarez = World Class

*runs away faster than Usain Bolt

A difference in definitions then. For me 'World Class' is associated with players who exhibit exceptional skills, not that they just happen to be better players than others in their peer group.

I'm waiting for Dreamy's definition - then this thread will be a blast.

Simple - the players that make a distinct difference to a team just by being in that team regardless of the level of talent in that team (good/average/poor). The ones that come to mind right now are few but here they are:-

Messi
Ronaldo
Suarez
Robben
Ribbery
Bale
Falcao

No particular order of preference - and I am sure there are more - but you stick any of those players into any team and you will notice a difference and they are consistent from game to game.

Messi and Ronaldo should be a level above world class, whatever that is? they deserve a bracket of their own after what they have done these last 4/5/6 years.

Sorry - but I also weight the leagues these players play in and judge them on the teams they play in. All things being equal - they are equal - but next season will be a fairer comparison as we see Suarez move to Spain. The leagues these players play in must also be accounted for - in Spain - really there are just 2 teams competing for the title in most part. In the UK - at least 3 teams are strong enough to do that every year. If Suarez continues his form into next season for Barca - then expect 40+ league goals.

They're all wingers or strikers, so there's no CMs (like Yaya Toure or Pirlo) or defenders (like Pique or Ramos) that could be classed as World Class?

Why do you need to know who's World Class and who isn't? Do you have the responsibly to sign players for us?
