So, whats your job?

And how did you get in to it?

Did you plan to work in the field your in since you were but a wee bairn, or have you kind of just fell in to your current role?

Do you wish you could do it all again and choose a different path?

Me? I'm an Assistant Practitioner in a hospital. Its basically a nurse but unregistered and can't give meds to patients.

When i was young I always wanted to get in to healthcare, however I wanted mental health. A psychology degree and optimism that I would be able to find somewhere was always the plan; sadly though a 2:2 wasnt' good enough. I didn't try as hard as I could of in uni, much to my eternal dismay.

So out of uni I became a hospital porter. Low paying menial labour, but gave me a great insight in to the hopistal world.

Few years down the line, chargehand drops a job description on the desk and says "anyone fancy it?"

Decided i'd go for it because it was 2 years at uni on more money, and then fully qualified on even more money. Seemed boss and would give me a career! Never really thought about looking after people this way, but fuck it, reckon id grow to like it

4 years fully qualified, it hasn't given me a career. I'm stuck with nowhere to go due to the nursing bursaries being cut, as well as defunding of the NHS.

Its worked out ok but theres not much opporunites for me to progress now, short of going elsewhere or taking a paycut.

So, what about you?
