Wilson Parrot Foundation

I was listening to "Up All Night" on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning when an American called Brian Wilson was interviewed.

Brian Wilson is a retired fireman and he told a very touching story about how his parrots rehabilitated him after a serious road accident.

He was so grateful to the parrots that he set up a charitable foundation to care for sick and abused parrots.

When asked about the charity's financial position, Wilson choked up and explained that in the last couple of years donations had dried up because of the economic conditions. He was determined to keep it going and had mortgaged his house.

Although I normally have a heart of stone, I was very moved and sent his foundation £50 by PayPal.

This may seem scatty, but anyone who has ever owned a parrot will understand how special and life-affirming these birds are. I owned an African Grey for 50 years and loved him to death. I forgave him the occasional nip! ;D

If anyone else should feel moved to send a donation, the buttons to press are on the home page.
