Can anyone convince me he is worth the outlay? What does he do? What are his strengths?

I see a bloke jogging around the pitch, occasionally passing it sideways and then slowly jogging away from the ball. I thought we we signing a dynamic attacking midfielder. What we got is a fart in the wind.

If you can't see what he does for the team, you don't have much of a football brain imo

He is, he's just been very poor the last few games.
He's just not a leader - when the team needs someone to pull them ahead, he won't do it

He's having a very similar debut season as Lallana did. Some good games but just as many where he's totally anonymous.

Well that makes a shit load of us then, and a load of Newcastle fans, and opposing fans.

When he plays well, when we are playing well, he can be good in keeping the flow going, and his energy and workrate. When we need more from him because we're not playing well or we need a spark of inspiration, he's nowhere. He was non-existent today and that was something that was called in the Summer before he signed, that he can far too frequently go missing. He's proven that time and time again throughout the season.

If you can't see that I don't know what games you've been watching. He's been symptomatic of everything that's wrong with us, ie he seems to turn up when he feels like.

Character rather than ability was my worry when he was still with the Toon and we were linked with him - he looked quality when things were going well, but he didn't have the cojones to dig in when they weren't. That pattern seems to be repeating itself now. IMO he is LFC standard, but he needs to do better than this.

Spot on.

He is great against the top 4 / 5 when you need to keep possession and play intricate balls and rightly deserved his plaudits.

However he is a gutless footballer for the other 75% of games, he always takes the easy option / pass back. He should be taking control, he has the talent. Today we were reduced to seeing Lucas trying to pall through balls. Wini was no where to be seen.

I'm not sure hes offered anything 'young Joe' didn't. Hes just awfully inconsistent.

Infact allen would have suited the midfield trio better than Gini.

Then you haven't read the question.

When he's on form he's worth 25 million. When he plays like today it's 5. Considering his performance are 50:50 between the 2, you take the average and we should have paid 15 million.

You could say that about a fair few of our midfielders. Gini does seem to only turn up at home and against the bigger opposition.

We lack a few flat track bullies.

We could do with a certain Steven coming out of retirement for the remaining 2 games.

The question should be why is Klopp keeping him on the pitch for so long when it's obvious he's having a shit game? Grujic did more in 5 minutes than Wijnaldum did all game.

Tidy player but very fair weather. When we're good, he's good. When we and the game needs more, he's not really at the races. Bit of a luxury player and not one to build a team around but, as said, tidy enough.

He was completely anonymous yesterday, and has been poor for the last 3 or 4, but people forget he was our best player from Feb-April after putting in some tremendous performances.

He's a good footballer, but clearly doesn't suit on those types of games. Like quite a few of our squad it seems.

In a market where Ibe was sold for £15mill, he's definitely worth £25mill

A fair weather midfielder who goes missing when the chips are down, can't put his stamp on a game and dictate play, even against weak opposition. A player with no stand out feature to his game. Average finisher, no that much pace, average passer, not particularly great in the tackle, often a passenger.

In short - a typical Liverpool midfielder.

Or maybe he's just knackered. Is it a coincidence that the players having played the most minutes for us by far (bar Clyne who is Eveready's poster boy), Firmino, Wijnaldum and Milner, are those whose games have fallen off a cliff ?

He's been poor of late and like Can he's absolutely useless in a line up trying to break a packed defence down.

Having said that I think he's a superb footballer and rate him very highly.

His touch, movement and pass selection in tight areas under pressure is second to none.
