Their pitch has been relaid. Good.

We'll be like this...

----------------------REINA-------------------

CARRA-----KYRGIAKOS--AGGER--INSUA

KUYT-------LUCAS--MASCHERANO---MAXI

---------------------GERRARD-----------------

----------------------TORRES----------------

And we'll win.

----------------------------Reina------------------------

Kelly--------Carra-----------Agger/ Zorba----------Inusa (God that fucking pains me)

---------------------------Masher------------------------

Casper------------------Gerrard---------------------Babel

-------------Kuyt----------------------Torres--------------

4-1-3-2

HAPPY DAYS.

We have a better chance of winning the league this year than seeing that line up next week.

I'm pretty sure Yossi will start, but otherwise I imagine you're right. We'll play terrible football, but get the win due to a solid defence, great keeper and brilliant striker. And the fact that Wigan are shite.

He'll surely get some minutes against Wigan? They're the perfect opposition with which to blood him some more.

So you constantly harp on Insua's defensive deficiencies, then propose to lube him up by having a hopeful at RB, and playing Babel ahead of him on an ultra attacking team, away from home?

I'd love to say oh, it's only wigan, but our performances against crap this season have been a real mixed bag.

Not to bring up the Aqualani debate but it's not like he was so poor in each of his appearances to an extent he is now deemed a liability. He started 4 games and we won four of them with two assists. Now I'm not using that stat to defend him, only to show that in his starts he hasn't exactly cost us winning. Some make out he's a liability and cannot be trusted in our midfield. I will agree he needs to work more off the ball and improve his defending but he is a 25 year old international and a 20 million rated player. Yes he a penchant to attack more but he would be playing beside the best DM in the world so perhaps that would balance that out. I know it goes against Rafa's vision of two holders (Lucas & Masher) but begs the question, why was he signed?

You seen to have it out for Aqualani since day one Ryan, but I suspect he is only a pawn in your continued defence of Lucas. Apologies if this comes across as an attack, because it isn't. It's merely frustration at the whole Aqualani saga and the continued partnership of Lucas and Masher.

Incorrect. You can go through any post I've ever made about the lad, right the way back to the first one last August Dave. I've been the only one to correctly judge the 'Aquilani situation' correctly all season long.

Im not sure who has been passed fit and who hasn't. Looking at the other teams im guessing Johnson is still ruled out?

Anyways heres my side:

---------------------Reina
Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Agger, Insua
Benayoun, Mascherano, Gerrard, Riera
-----------------Kuyt, Torres

--------------Reina
Carra--Agger-Kyrgia--Insua

----------Mascher
Benny-----------------Babel
--------Gerrard
-------Torres-Kuyt

But as LTW said, no chance to see this side.
Rafa will play:

---------------Reina
Carra-Kyrgia-Agger-Insua
-------Lucas-Mascher
Kuyt-----Gerrard--Maxi
----------Torres

Acquilani was signed because Xabi left and we had a vacancy in the squad for a senior midfield player. Just because he was bought for £20m, doesn't entitle him to start a match. We have never been a club like that. Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City all have £20m+ players on the bench (or even out on loan) why not us?

Also it seems whenever a player is missing people bemoan why they aren't in the team. We can only play 11, so good players will always be left out.

I apologise if I'm casting aspersions but it does seem like you have developed a minor Aqualani agenda. I think it can be corelated to your defence of Lucas. Just my opinion Ryan. I think I'm forming my opinion due to the little snide comments from time to time like the one above ('Mis-management' apparently.) Do you exonerate Rafa from blame in this situation? All blame cannot fall on Aqualani's door in this player saga. You have stated in the past why you think Rafa isn't starting him (trust issues was a main reason raised), has Aqualani been afforded time to gain trust? In an ideal world, Isn't Masherano (best DM in the world) a perfect foil for Aqualani? Was that not Rafa intention when he signed him to replace Xabi Alonso? I understand that the fight for 4th is now imperative to such a degree that Rafa must stick to what he knows to carve out vital points. However, Aqualani is fit since the new year and should be helping our crusade for 4th, not sitting on a bench, hoping for a game in the Europa cup. I don't know what is going on behinds closed door but as many have said, Rafa cannot afford to let a 20 million rated player go idle on the sidelines.

I do think/hope next year we will see the 'real' Aqualani.

Who said he should play on the merit that he cost 20million?

So once we play 11 players, we as fans on a football forum aren't allowed question/debate why some are playing and some are not? We better delete the numerous Babel, Riera, Kuyt and Lucas threads so.

What was your judgement? I agree he needs to improve on his work off the ball and adjust to the pace of the league but he will do that with games. As I said, I hope he gets the time to do this next season or we've wasted another opportunity to sign a 20 million rated player.

Johnson set to return for Liverpool
05/03/2010 - 15:01:41

Defender Glen Johnson is set for a comeback against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Monday.

The England full-back has been sidelined with a knee problem since the end of December but is on the verge of a recall.

Daniel Agger’s knee injury sustained against Blackburn last weekend is unlikely to keep him out while fellow centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos returns after a three-match suspension.

Provisional squad: Reina, Johnson, Degen, Agger, Carragher, Krygiakos, Insua, Gerrard, Lucas, Aquilani, Benayoun, Riera, Rodriguez, Ngog, Kuyt, Torres, Cavalieri, Pacheco, Spearing, Darby, Babel, Kelly.
