Rooney is surely the hot favourite.

Premier League, EFL & FA introduce new player behaviour rules

Plans designed to reduce "intolerable behaviour" by players and managers in English football have been announced.
In a statement, the Premier League, English Football League and Football Association said poor conduct has reached "unacceptable levels".
Starting this season, red cards will be issued to players who confront match officials and use offensive language or make gestures towards them.

Behaviour within the technical areas will also be more rigorously enforced.
Not one player has been sent off in the Premier League for insulting or abusive language towards a match official in the past five seasons.
But Premier League chairman Richard Scudamore said there has been concern "for some time" that players have been "overstepping the mark".
"It is our collective position that these types of behaviour should no longer be tolerated," he added.
"Things happen in the heat of the moment during fast and highly competitive football. We still want to see the passion fans enjoy and demand, but players and managers have to be aware there are lines that should not be crossed."
Offences which could earn players a yellow card

  • Visibly disrespectful behaviour to any match official;
  • An aggressive response to decisions;
  • Confronting an official face to face;
  • Running towards an official to contest a decision;
  • Offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards match officials;
  • Physical contact with any match official in a non-aggressive manner;
  • A yellow card for at least one player when two or more from a team surround a match official.
New red card offences

  • If a player confronts match officials and uses offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures towards them;
  • Physical contact with match officials in an aggressive or confrontational manner.

Will it be enforced ?
I think it will initially, then the media will complain, the managers complain, lots of appeals

It'll become such a hornet's nest it'll just slowly fade in to nothingness by the end of the season

Sadly

If it was a sin bin it might have a chance of stickin.

But because its a sending off, I think what Fabio says is the likely outcome

Rooney has calmed down these days, hasn't he?
He has. I think it's mainly due to apathy on his part

Wouldn't surprise me if it was Wilshere ... Wilshire? That permanent crock anyway. He's got a hot head and I can imagine him telling a ref to fuck off

Is Lee Mason still on the list? If so, probably the first player to see his pompous prison warder face. Fancy protecting odious twits like him from deserved criticism. They'll be banning booing in the stands next.

Surely a Chelsea player has to be favourite. Terry .. and he won't even be on the pitch. Red for swearing from the bench.

A sinbin would be a radical change and not a positive one I think.

It would result in one team sitting with 10 men behind the ball for the length of the sin bin.

Of a team plays that way then they probably would have played that way with xi men.

I'd be for a sin bin

You'd think it would be either Vardy, Rooney, Terry or Costa but it rarely works that way... probably someone that's normally calm and quiet...likely from one of the smaller clubs. Leighton Baines or someone... once that's done and the FA walk about with their dicks out for a week or two we'll hear nothing else about respect for the rest of the season.

I was livid when Mascherano was targeted the last time the FA decided to make a point. Mascher was always a bit dirty and often walked the line but his disrespect to refs was generally in the form of shrugs, hand flaps and playing ignorant. He was nothing like Rooney, Cole, Bellamy and Terry who often aggressively abused referees. That was at a time where Utd and Chelsea players were obviously told to surround the referees and it made my blood boil that we were the ones that were made an example of. ..

Whilst giving yellow cards for abuse could be good.. it would need to be consistent. I already feel that too many yellows are dished out for tackles that are simply a little late (no malice). It drives me mad seeing players like Ronaldo purposely invite tackles to simply get players carded.

This isn't going to be enforced, or if it is, it'll be in the most severe of circumstances that they do anything. e.g 10 players rush the ref - he'll book 1. Can you really see the ref booking 10 players in 1 go? Not going to happen. And we'll still see all the swearing on TV at them.

They should have a microphone so the conversations can he heard.

It would soon put a stop to it as players have to look after their 'brand'.

I'll bet right now, that's it not a high profile player from a high profile club.

By December, it will just be another gimmick. But it should be enforced, just like the shirt pulling in the box, because once you put the line down, people will either conform or keep getting punished until they learn.
