Who the hell is Jurgen? Another twat?

Why are you so outraged? Everything he said there was correct.

Sure, Rafa is a far better manager than him overall. And sure, he was an unmitigated disaster at Bayern (did very well for Germany though). But clearly he's not a complete fool. Every man and his dog knows we need more pace, technical ability and quality to back up Torres and Gerrard. It's one of Rafa's blind spots. We seem to have far too many slow, weak, not-very-technical players in our squad.

Wenger: 'Everybody has a real chance not to make the top four'. That's at least an unusual way to put it.

I'm not entirely sure how you can say that?

It maybe true, there is no real back up for Torres and Gerrard and we have no genuine pace but I find it odd how you can say that it's Rafas blind spot when you don't know what goes on at Melwood, what LFC options are in terms of finances and what the long term plans are. It seems to me that it's an observation based on half the story.

Maybe I'm wrong and you have insiders information...

I think Mullet's point, with which I would agree, is that we can't know whether Rafa actually doesn't want to sign such players, or whether he's been prevented from doing so by the conditions under which he has to operate. To take one example, many seem to have assumed that Rafa chose not to sign back-up to Torres. I don't share that assumption. My bet is Rafa knew perfectly well we need such back-up, but was made promises about the transfer kitty which ultimately weren't kept.

He's been here for six years mate. And we've outspent Man Utd in that time.

So you don't think we lack technical players? You don't think our squad options are pitiful? You don't think 6 years quantifies a 'long term plan'? Yeah, you really need "insider information" to see all that.

You can't dismiss Del's point out of hand. This is Rafa's squad, his vision, and he's had both the time and the resources to be held up to scrutiny.

6 years is a long term plan but my point is we don't know the details to see how it's not working. Hence the insiders information comment.

Klinsmann's never been a regular pundit on UK tv. Maybe in the past he's flown in for a Spurs match, I don't remember, but his sudden appearance for our games is surely a sign of mischief-making on Sky's part. It's not his problem, although he seems to have changed from the strict and dignified 'no comment' figure of a year ago to a keen follower of our (mis)fortunes. It's just all very laboured. Sky are currently running ludicrous 'Welcome back, Big Sam' tributes to Allardyce - they have their favourites and their pet hates. That always makes me want to defend the club, rather than gloat at the additional weight they add to the baggage, but it takes all sorts, I guess.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has hit back at Jurgen Klinsmann after the former Germany star attacked his record and the quality of the Reds' squad.

Klinsmann had echoed the concerns of ex-Reds boss Graeme Souness, who warned of a potential "meltdown" at Anfield.

But Benitez said: "There is always criticism but I don't listen. I turn off the volume on the TV."

The Spaniard added sarcastically: "Both have fantastic records as managers, so the fans ignore what they say."

Ex-Germany and Bayern Munich boss Klinsmann, who was linked with taking over the managerial reins at Anfield only two years ago, said this week that Liverpool lacked creativity, quality and consistency.

Klinsmann guided Germany to the World Cup semi-finals on home soil in 2006, but his tenure at Bayern lasted less than a season before he was sacked in April.

Benitez responded to Klinsmann's criticism by saying: "I think he was an expert in marketing. His management career? Short."

Heh, eek.

Poor current form aside why would we want to replace a manager who has a proven record and has won trophies with one who's done, er, fuck all ?

Apart from our owners being completely dim that is.

Nail on head.

Scary...

I've no faith whatsoever in our owners doing the right things for Liverpool FC. None at all.

When you have concerted efforts by pundits and so called experts attacking our club, we cannot simply take it lying down. I will attack the attackers who are unreasonable, even though our club is dire at the moment.

So you desire our manager to agree with every unjustifiable criticisms laid on the club?

It wasn't included in most of the reports, rather intriguingly, but I've been told reliably that Benitez was far more direct about Klinsmann during the one-to-ones after the conference. He also said: "I don’t know if there's any hidden agenda in Klinsmann being on Sky twice and us playing each time. Is he after my job? I really don't know. All that I can be sure of is that these sorts of things will still be coming out in four or five years and I still won’t be taking any notice."

I'm actually hoping we won't be playing the same kind of shit football in four or five years; as Rafa will be the only one taking no notice.

I'd also rather hope he focused more on shoving Klinsmann's words down his throat.
