What's your minimum expectation for this season?

We are out of the FA Cup and the league is all but won by City. We are in Qtrs of the CL though. By the end of the season, what would be the minimum you'd expect from the team to call it a "good season"?

I think mine would be top 4

I'd like to finish 2nd-3rd - leave 4th to one of those small clubs like Chelsea or Spurs.

CL - I think it's high time Klopp ends his poor cup final run. Heart says expect a win, head says semis would be great.

My minimum expectation was to win something. So unless we pull a rabbit out of a hat this season has been pretty much meh.
We've played some good football though which is positive.

So you expected at the start of the season we'd win something- as in, you thought that this was something that would happen?

1) win CL - i beleive all other teams are shit
2) to come second

Either of the above 2 would do for me.

Top 4 and getting to the CL Semi-Finals would leave me with a feeling we're progressing towards a big push for major honours next season.
I believe we'll have a strong Summer transfer window, with top players keen to join what is an exciting team on the up!
That said, I think we may win the Champs Legaue this year and do the Treble next season .

If we get top 4, then my expectations have been met in all honesty.
QF in Champions League was probably the target.
Shame we didnt have a better run in the FA or League cup.

To finish in the top four, and to get to the end of the season without a single further fuck up or moment of panic in which we lose or look like losing a two goal lead. Then we can go into next season with some sort of confidence that we've finally solved that problem. I'd also like Salah to finish as top scorer and Ox to keep improving without having any more shit games.

I fancy us to go all the way in the CL, I really do, but it isn't a minimum expectation. The very minimum acceptable at this stage is CL qualification. We've already acquitted ourselves well in the CL and going beyond this stage is more than most would have expected before a ball was kicked (and when we still had to qualification games for the CL proper).

I think you should. We can easily win that trophy - I don't know why any of you rate any of the other teams - they are so shit.

What the doc said. Also it won't be easy, our team might be as good or better than others, but we don't have a cynical manager like Benitez who can manage the two legs with minimal risk. Klopp is more likely to just try to win every game which could make the tie very difficult if we concede goals at Anfield.

Also before modo gets happy, fuck Benitez.

Would that not be a little bit more than a good season, your current levels of apathy notwithstanding?
In all honesty read the thread title not the post.

I suppose top 4 and a cup final is a good season.

Winning a cup a great season.

Winning the league an amazing one.

Minimum at this stage now, and considering where we were end of last season:
Good season : Top 3 and CL 1/4 finals
Excellent : 2nd and CL semis
Superb : 2nd and CL final
Incredible season : 2nd and win CL !

I think in klopp's first season we got to two cup finals but that was definitely at the expense of our league form and was ultimately futile as we lost both.
Last season, without the distraction of European competition, our league form was good, with a two points per game total achieved.
This season, we have managed to keep up our league form, while having an extended Champions league run.
So if we can equal or surpass our points total from last year I think we will have met expectations for this season.
Progress.
Going beyond the next stage in the Champions League would probably mean we have exceeded them.

Next season, progress should entail a points total in the eighties and extended runs in most/all of the cup competitions and hopefully a win in something.
As much as I want us to actually start winning trophies, and we will need to eventually, winning a trophy is not necessarily in isolation a sign of progress.
We can look no further to see this than Arsenal, who have clearly regressed further this season, despite the FA Cup win last season, though an unlikley Europa League win might offer then redemption.
Hopefully not.

CL qualification and good performances in the CL.

But honestly I've expected to win the CL since the end of last season and that hasn't changed.

Klopps style is perfectly suited to an attacking competition.

We are winning it.

I just can't see us winning the final no matter who it is against. I can see us getting there, but Klopp's record gives me the fear.

But we've got Salah da da da da da.

I hope we get an attacking opponent.

I'd take City right now as I think we can beat them

We can easily win it, but 10 times more easily we can bottle it on Our way. Luckily the same can be said about 6 of the remaining 12 teams in the competition. And for the other 6 it is luckily enough that they can't easily win it.

I expect us to show a strong run in, cementing our position as City's main challengers for 2019 PL trophy. So we should be 2nd come end of season. However I would forgive the team if a CL final come in and distrub the PL run in slightly.
