I couldn't say in what respect(s) particularly, but I can believe he still has something to offer provided he's prepared to accept a bit of a diminution in status with Clarke's arrival.

I guess. A bit weird though that Sammy is still assistant manager considering Clarke's role.

What is Clarke's role?

Liverpool first-team coach Steve Clarke: the low-down on Kenny Dalglish's right-hand man
With Steve Clarke confirmed as Kenny Dalglish's No 2, Telegraph Sport looks at the Scotsman's past achievements and what his future at Liverpool could hold.
New beginnings: Steve Clarke's new role at Liverpool is his first since leaving West Ham last summer
By Rory Smith 10:13AM GMT 11 Jan 2011
How he works
The 47 year-old will function as a bridge between dressing room and Boot Room. He was counted as a confidante by many of Chelsea’s players during his years as assistant to Jose Mourinho (right, top) between 2004-08, while Gianfranco Zola (below) described his innovative training sessions as “brilliantâ€.
What he has done
Clarke made his name as a player at Chelsea but became more famous for his work as a coach under Mourinho, and was widely credited with a significant role in their consecutive title wins. His spell at West Ham was less successful, leaving Upton Park in June last year after Zola’s dismissal. He had a short spell as Newcastle caretaker manager after Ruud Gullit’s sacking in 1999.
What they say
Jose Mourinho: “If he had the chance to manage a club, even a big club like Chelsea, he would be ready for that. He is that good. He is an intelligent guy and always looking to improve. He is very open to co-operation and learning. He has a good relationship with the players, knows how to handle them. I think he is much, much better than many managers who are in charge of teams at the moment.â€
What it means
Although Clarke was out of work following his spell at West Ham, his appointment seems unlikely to be temporary. Should Dalglish not remain in place, Clarke’s presence at Anfield would be ideal for the 33-year-old Porto manager, Andre Villas Boas, his former colleague under Mourinho and one candidate for the long-term Liverpool post.
