Big test for us this one.

We have lost to the two half decent sides we've played this year and struggled against Bolton and the Hungarian's.

We need to win and get the winning run up to 6 or 7 games to build confidence, especially with Torres still in 3rd gear.

So how do people think we will go against the hammers?

Win lose or draw?

West Ham are shite.

If we don't win, it'll be down to whatever shoddy performance we through up as opposed to West Ham actually going out there and making it difficult for us.

Yep agree with that stance. This is serious business now, 3 points are an absolute must.

Btw, is it just me or is the West Ham team completely unrecognisable to just a few years ago.
I remember watching them against Spurs and i kept saying to my mate 'who the fuck is that'? and 'who the fuck is that'?

They're broke and have gone with a mixture of youth and loan signings. I really like Collison, and remember mentioning him on here a year or two ago.

They're really not that good, but Zola can only piss with the cock he's got, so he's not doing too badly considering.

They put in some very solid performances last year. We should beat them conformtably but then we should have won last this morning by more than a goal too.

West Ham have been very poor going forward this season, but fairly solid at the back. The big risk is that the game will be a goalless borefest. Hopefully Johnson, Yossi and Mascher will all play well against their old club, and Torres will finally spark into life.

and they've just lost Neil

... who is supposedly having a medical with Everton. Perfect place for him.

We drew against them at Anfield last season and I fear a similar result - Torres was in Upson's pocket all game.

We simply have to get 3 points at the Boleyn

Except Torres didn't play at home to West Ham last season.

Was it last year when the LB Illunga (sp?) did and excellent impression of Pepe Reina? Hand balls everywhere.

Yup, thats' the one.

The game where Torres was in Upson's pocket so much, that he wasn't actually even named on the teamsheet according to Squiggles.

It's funny how we've gone from a squad full of posshibilities to none at all. I mean, there are no surprises anymore, no selection dilemmas, debates or any real disagreements. You might say that is welcome relief after a couple years suffering through the great rotation debate and proof that the team is strong... but... it's made forum life rather boring.

True, but I think it say's something about the quality in each position of our first 11.

Back in the 'he should be playing instead of him' days it was maybe because we didn't have top quality in each position. I think, to an extent, we do these days and that's come as a result of players having settled in for a few years.

It's the old quality over quantity debate I suppose.

I think it's probably just the by-product of a real dull summer. Had we have had the money to do a little more business, we'd have perhaps had one or two more pushing the first teamers for their place in the side. And maybe a little more to get excited about.

Aquilani has yet to show us what he can do in a red shirt I suppose.... maybe one of the youngsters.

I keep forgetting about Aquilani for some reason. Maybe cos I don't expect he'll deliver much in his first season, and anything he does produce will be an exciting bonus.

I think if we're waiting on our youngsters, then it's a sign of our desperation, so maybe you're right yeah.
