West Germany tips around Cologne and Frankfurt

Alright so me and some mates have some tickets for the euros later this year but accommodation is of course a mess.

Via a recommendation via via we got tipped about Koblenz and Heidelberg. Does anyone know good areas where a few lads can stay in a nice town close to Cologne and Frankfurt? Place for beers and views and river cruises etc

And if you know Koblenz, what part of the city is any good?
