Wenger complaining (again)

Arsene Wenger has hit out at the Premier League fixture list after his side's 1-1 draw with Burnley.

Arsenal play Hull, who have not played since 12 December, on Saturday after away games on Sunday and Wednesday.

"The guy who organised the fixtures this season must have come from a special school, because he's more intelligent than I am," said Wenger.

"I think the Premier League has a basic promise to organise the fixtures in a normal way."

Hull's week without a game was a result of Everton's Europa League commitments, and Wenger believes his side have been unfairly treated.

Arsenal played away at Liverpool on 13 December, winning 2-1, before taking on Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.

"For sure, (the fixture organisers) have never played football, organising midweek games in a week when you have a Europa League programme," said Wenger.

"We have some teams who do not play at all. We play Sunday and Wednesday away and at home on Saturday against Hull, who have not played all week."

Wenger also criticised Wolves boss Mick McCarthy's decision to field a weakened side against Manchester United.

McCarthy - with one eye on Sunday's game against fellow newly promoted side Burnley - made 10 changes to his side at Old Trafford, and saw his side fall to a 3-0 defeat.

"We will have to compete with Manchester United over 37 games instead of 38," said Wenger.

"I believe it is a problem for the international credibility of the Premier League, but it is not my problem, it is a Premier League problem."

But Burnley boss Owen Coyle refused to condemn McCarthy's decision, despite the fact his side will now face a relatively fresh Wolves team at the weekend.

"If that is the motivation for Wolves, to galvanise them, then so be it," said Coyle.

"Mick McCarthy is an outstanding manager and fantastic man, somebody I have a lot of time for.

"He has done a fantastic job at Wolves and does what he sees fit for Wolverhampton."

Haha, I reckon this may have something to do with Cesc potentially missing the xmas fixtures. A bit hypocritical considering Wenger always plays a weakened side in the carling cup. Yes I know it's the Carling cup, but it's still a weakened side nonetheless.

He's bang on about the Wolves thing. Why should they gift a team they don't think they can beat, 3 point and allow to rest players. Like I said, I wonder whether McCarthy will do the same thing at Chelsea away and Arsenal away. Doubt it.

Word is that Sir Alex will be knighting the big nosed, Irish yorkie for services rendered to Man Utd.

Wolves should be fined heavily by the league for that stunt.

It's fair enough to rest a few players and field a weakened team but that was blatantly throwing the match.

And the fans are quite right to ask for their money back.

Wolves are a disgrace and should be punished. Financials aside, if you're going to roll over against Utd so you can play your big guns against Burnley, what's the point of even getting promoted?

The interview with their CEO was very interesting. He was professional in what he said but I thought it was fairly clear that he'd been surprised, and not best pleased, by McCarthy's decision.

Fined? How about docked points? This is the league not the FA/Carling Cup. Surely there are rules against this?

I read a comment on the bbc which kind of rung true (before we get on our high horses).

It said that Liverpool fans have little right to complain when we played a weakened side against Fulham a few years back (on the eve of the CL final 07) which we lost.. and ultimately, helped Fulham survive the drop.

Teams look after their own interests. If a fresh, fit Wolves team beat Burnley on Saturday, I don't think any of their fans will be too unhappy. If they lose, then McCarthey's gamble will look very foolish. Part and parcel of being a manager, you live and die by your decisions.

There's some truth in that BUT doing it the once, at the tail end of the season (when there won't be time to do it again) and just before a CL final, is a bit different from doing it even before Christmas in a Prem season. How often is Slalomnose going to keep doing it during the season? What if other teams follow suit?

Thats not quite right.

That was Warnocks whinging, but that same team had played before near the start of the season bar one or 2 players, it wasn't 10 reserves FFS!

Worncock's lot had their closest relegation rivals at home in the final game, when a win would have kept them up, and they couldn't manage it. That man is a bitter, twisted, rancid, ugly, hypocritical pimple on the @rse of football, and that's on a good day.

Especially when you take into account the result they got away to spurs .

Quite. I know three or four Wolves fans (there are quite a few round here), one a season ticket-holder, and a couple of them were spitting tacks over this when I e-mailed them about it. If they're anything to go by, and if their team doesn't beat Burnley now, McCarthy is going to get some weapons-grade stick from the fans.

And so he should mate.

They had just taken 3 points away from home against a good spurs side, and then he follows that up by treating their next league game like it was a CC match.

Like others have already said i could understand if he rested a few players, but to rest all 10 out field players is just a piss take.

But Utd were there for the taking. As shown by Villa and Besiktas at OT. They are very beatable and if he does it against Utd then he should do it against Arsenal and Chelsea too. Perhaps even Arsenal and Spurs.

3 things should happen:

1. Wolves docked 3 points or more.
2. The Scum v Wolves game should be replayed.
3. Wolves fans should be given their money back.

None of these things will happen.

Wenger the Hypocrite, courtesy of footy365.com:

We're Going Through Changes

December 9: Arsene Wenger makes 11 changes to his starting line-up for Arsenal's final Champions League group game with Olympiakos. Arsenal lose the game 1-0, thus leaving Standard Liege with no chance of qualifying for the second round.

December 15: Mick McCarthy makes ten changes to his starting line-up for Wolves' trip to Manchester United.

December 16: Wenger accuses McCarthy of damaging the "international credibility" of the Premier League, stating "We compete with Manchester United over 37 games instead of 38."

Wenger should be grateful he got three points against us, that was two too many at least, plus Burnley are good at home.

He's just sore because his luck ran out. Streaky Gallic poof.
