I was seriously proud of them after that performance and they left the field with as huge amount of spirit, character and pride. It's those performances which bond the fans and the players. I felt like I was watching Liverpool again for the first time in a long time. The last few years it's just been almost a collection of players, but not tonight.

Deserve a lot of credit and they all deserved to go through. Feel gutted for Carragher.

I knew this team was going places when we beat finally beat someone from the prestigious 'Top 10 team' category the other day 😉

One thing I really felt proud of yesterday was the team fought until the last second - they believed. That comes from the player and manager. I honestly thought we'd do it, as per the match thread, once Suarez's first free kick went in. That's why I was so gutted when the final whistle blew.

Looking back on the last 4 games, where we won and lost 2 (but should have won all 4), I feel that the team has turned a corner. No, that doesn't mean we'll go on some long run of positive results. It just means that the team is growing up slightly. Rodgers is too - and that's what yesterday showed me. He cocked up in the 1st leg - you have a 0-0 after 70 minutes, just shut down shop and hold it. He'll learn from this experience, and hopefully from the early domestic cup exits, and improve his ability to lead us going forward.

It's been an up n' down year, but the signs are there. Hopefully we sign the right kind of players in the summer and continue to build a squad round Suarez, Sturridge and co. It should be able to challenge for 4th, or better (depending on how our rivals strengthen/weaken).

COME ON YOU REDS

I kinda felt the same way but then I questioned to what extent you should be proud of a team that has just been knocked out of Europe by an average side and once again been the architect of it's own demise. Every English club advanced bar us.

Yeah we fought hard n all, but we're 11 points off 4th and out of every competition. Snot that much of a buzz really.

Keep in mind they only recently spent 80m on player purchases, and more before that.

My heart of stone broke when I saw Suarez face after the final whistle. This guy carries such a burden on his shoulders. Just like Gerrard did a couple of years ago.
I really hope the purchase of two productive players like Sturridge and Coutinho convinces him to stay for at least two more seasons.

I think they were Russian league champions the last 2 seasons weren't they? In contrast, we've been a 7th, 6th and 8th placed finisher the last 3 seasons, and played almost the entire tournament with one striker. I suspect we made them look average at Anfield.

Unfortunately I concur. Every passing season (forgive pun) we let the expectations get lower n lower. We are back at 1999 expectation levels. Fingers crossed now that we can score for fun, we'll start to win all these nearly games. And with Rodgers this season, every big game is a nearly game. He never never ever delivers. he really has to start wining some of them. After all, this is Liverpool.

Keni, they are better than average. They've been Russian champions for the past 2 seasons. They have some very talented players. They've spent big recently, and let's not forget they are currently on a big break from league football.

We deserve a lot of credit for last night.

I think last night we were fantastic upto the subs, all went to pot then. Gutted for Suarez as he worked his bollocks off last night and really wanted it.

Kids get credit, grown men either win or lose. We shouldn't be getting thrown out of the fecking Europa league, in the early rounds. I'm not giving credit to a team that fought back, when they threw it away in the first leg and fIrst few minutes. I'm done being gentle, this is fucking Liverpool. You get dumped out of the Europa league, you don't get a "there there"

A fine effort last night - a proper Liverpool performance. They've got a bit of a break now so hopefully Rodgers will set up a training camp somewhere warm, get some bonding happening, and get the mentality right for the rest of the season, telling them to show everyone what kind of team they'll see challenging next year.

AMEN ... I hope for the same effort - from players, manager and crowd alike - in the last few games of the season. We can still finish in the top 6, which would be a good start for Rodgers. Next year though, we're going to all be Dumbledorian.

Im finding it difficult to believe that some people are so begrudging in relation to the performance last night. What does it matter if it was the Europa League? What does it matter that it was Zenit ( although the begrudgers do seem to under estimate them)?

We gave them a three goal start and then gave a breath taking performance that just fell short. Regardless of what people think, this IS a work in progress. Its all about steps forward and backwards. Its about a young manager ( who makes mistakes and hopefully will learn from them) and young, exciting, players.

As Macca said last night's performance was a proper Liverpool performance, not just from the players but from the fans as well. It was one of those Anfield nights. We lost but I really enjoyed watching us last night, and if last night is a taste of whats to come then I, for one, cant wait for more.

Even if you're not convinced just enjoy the moment you moany fuckers🙂

I'm going to be sick!

Come on macca let it flow through you.
These boys are going to grow along with Mr Rodgers, Grow and learn ok, Grow and fight and learn, and show spirit, Grow ok, and fight and learn and show spirit, and charact-her, ok.

For the first time in a long, long while, I see that corner after a hazy few years of despair.

Now, whether we truly turn that corner is another thing. In fact, I still think we're not at the corner yet. It will take time.

However, it was an excellent performance. Slightly short of great tho'. Our defence still seem shaky but if Brendan is streetwise enough to rectify it quickly, we will be one heck of a team.

I liked a lot what I saw yesterday. We played like courageous lions but limped around after the substitutions.

But let's not forget one thing. We have been here before with previous teams. We play like world-beaters one game, and like a conference league team the next. Inconsistency has always been our Achilles' heel. Churning results week in, week out - that's the mark of a great team.

Great performance, great result. But lots of work still to be done. Walk on.
