For all the negative comments some have made for our league form its only fair we give Brendan credit for the Europa league.

We really couldn't have asked for me from the group stages.

We finished top of the group
We blooded the kids allowing them to step up to the first team
We put players such as Downing in the shop window
We allowed out of form/low on confidence players get some game time (Hendo, Enrique)
We kept Carra happy by giving him a few starts
We played great football for the most part

All in all the pretty much as good a group stage as we could have hoped for on all fronts.

We finished top of the group - yes!!!
We blooded the kids allowing them to step up to the first team - oh yeah
We put players such as Downing in the shop window - oh no, but he's better than I thought
We allowed out of form/low on confidence players get some game time (Hendo, Enrique) - yeses
We kept Carra happy by giving him a few starts - I guess
We played great football for the most part - hmm

Yes his first euro campaign has gone well. Lots of positives. Let's win this suckah

Would have been nice to have qualified a couple of weeks ago. But your points are well made. Credit where its due. A good week, and a step in the right direction. Lets take a few more of those.

Let's be realistic , alot of the points mentioned were more influenced and facilitated by the poor standard of the competition and the poor quality of our squad than anything else . But regardless , credit to rodgers ...it worked and we qualified .

Indeed poor opposition but the balance between giving kids a chance and not getting knocked out is a fine line.

We are no longer a top 4 side so to manage it has been very impressive.

Re poor opposition, I'd say our europa group was more difficult than uniteds champions league group.

Yeah, that group was a wee tester. It is has been an excellent competition for testing our resources out and building the experience of the squad.

I'm happy with how we progressed. We made it difficult on ourselves, and really could/should have had 15 points imo ... However, the team is growing slowly but surely, and understanding what Rodgers wants. He's used the tourney perfectly to blood in kids, give the fringe members of the squad valuable minutes and keep potential 1st teamers still fresh. This journey will take some time - but with adequate resources, smart purchases and the continuing progress of our u18 and reserve teams, I think we'll have a very competitive outfit within the next 12 months.

Yes well done Brendan. The only thing that stopped us finishing it earlier is the problem we all know we have. And its not at RB

Imagine what this thread would have said if Di Natale had kept his shot down?

Most of the performances have been pretty poor, but we scraped through. It is a relief. The real test is to come.

Yeah, but that shot was the difference between him being seen as doing a good or bad job.

I think that's absurd.

Not really. Sure we had some equally good chances in the match that we missed. If they'd gone in it wouldn't have mattered about Di natales effort.

I think Ross is trying to point out the role of 'luck' in a football match and probably a career. But you're right, that works both ways.

I think Rodgers had rode his luck in this competition but then I think that was inevitable in a way. We're not particularly good and we don't have much in the way of squad depth. Luckily for us the group ended up being much stronger on paper than it was in reality - all the teams were crap.

DB's cursed us now.

We'll go out meekly against decidedly average opponents in the next round, mark my words - nothing good comes of DB being happy about anything related to Liverpool FC.

Giving kids a chance? He had a choice?

Look at our teams from last season.
Rodgers had a choice to make in the summer. Keep the squad depth via keeping shite players, or get rid knowing the number of senior players didn't stack up. He still left senior members that are at the club on the bench and put the kids on.
Nothing new, we went to the CC final with our youth team under Rafa after all, but I like Rodger's style, as it doesn't end there for the players. Get your chance in Europe, take it, and you're straight in the team for the next PL game. Suso, Sterling, Enrique, Wisdom, even Downing.
For all the stuff I liked about Rafa, that's the one thing he never did, and it must have been confusing for the players. Pongolle and co. Beat Spurs in the semi finals I think, but none of them got the chance in the league games after those games, nor did they get the chance in the final, when we lost to Chelsea.

When Rodgers gets treated like any other manager instead of a puppy that needs a pat every morning it hasn't crapped on the carpet a sense of perspective will have returned. Is he a proper manager on a par with others or a special case who needs bells and whistles and bunting whenever he presides over something that ordinarily would be treated as no more than routine? This stuff isn't respectful, it's downright patronising.

Don't remember you moaning about praises and excuses made made for Kenny, who under performed both on the pitch and transfer marker last season.

I don't remember a well done Kenny thread when he actually won a fucking cup! And Kenny has done enough and won enough for this club to fucking well deserve any praise. As I said, this stuff now is just patronising nonsense.

I get where you're coming from macca.

I think with rodgers its because it seems like we're gradually starting to get the results to match our performances.

It was a tricky group (anzhi and udinese wouldn't be out of place in a CL group)

I too get exactly where you are coming from as well Macca.
While I don't wholly disagree with what you are saying I think you are over stating the case a tad though.
