There was huge cheer and a long round of applause in the bar where I was watching when he was entering the pitch. I thought he did quite well, considering the long absence, your thoughts?

This is from Twitter, this was the team last time Flanno played for Liverpool before tonight:

Big welcome back to Flanno ...

I really hope he can regain his form and confidence - was a very solid contributor to that team two years ago!

Made me smile to see Cafu acknowledge him again!

Yes, this whole "Scouse Cafu" thing is on the surface just as ridiculous as "Welsh Xavi/Pirlo"... but in this case the actual Cafu bought into this – playfully, of course, but still! Which shows that maybe it's not as ridiculous as it might seem.

Scouse Cafu was obviously coined with humour in mind, rather than any genuine comparison, given their playing styles are not really similar.

Hopefully he'll keep Clyne on his toes. I want Flanno in but it'll be ages til hes fully fit apparently

Hopefully he'll keep all the other fullbacks on their toes. He's a genuine option on either side of the defence - I didn't notice any drop in performance when he played on the left.

Of course, that's why I said it was playful. But the real Xavi did not endorse Allen, even half-jokingly, did he? There is some level of respect there from one of football's all-time legends, otherwise he wouldn't have bothered.

That forward line 🙁

Suppose we somehow kept it intact, right now we would still have a permanently injured Sturridge, probably an unhappy and increasingly erratic Suarez and a perennial headache with Sterling and his cunt of an agent. And £120M less in the bank. It was nice while it lasted, but it wasn't mean to last, unfortunately. We need to find new players who are top quality, happy to be here and not permanently injured. It's not impossible.

Good thing we spent that 120 mill so well though. 🙁

I dont think the Welsh Xavi was meant to be a serious comparison

It was meant far more seriously than Scouse Cafu, given Rodgers eulogised about Allen's bravery and playing style, and also remarked that Allen would be worth 30m, as well as making a comparison to Paul Scholes.
