We needed that. We really needed that.

As I said in the match thread, that had all the hallmarks of previous seasons. So many chances, hit the post so many fucking times, opposition goalkeepers have the game of their lives against us. I even predicted a late goal for Stoke.
To concede that goal, would've been brutal. A slap in the face. A kick in the fucking balls. A sad realisation that nothing has changed. Our biggest weakness is our mental weakness.
To have Mingolet, who had been shaky beforehand, to save that and see that celebration afterwards with all the players was immense.
To me, that win will do more for the team's confidence and morale than a 3 - 0 would've. This well bring us closer and slowly, very slowly allow us to shake off that chokers tag.
Meet the new Liverpool, may not be the same as the old Liverpool.

The reaction from Gerrard says everything

Big time. The manner of the win should stand us in good stead for the rest of the season.

Buzzing.

Agreed.

Preferred the reaction to the save than the one to the goal. Especially love seeing SG still care that much...

God , that game was ace.

Arsenal playing some good footy but look rogue as fook. Not sure theyll be that much seperating as from 4th this season..

More worried about Spurs at the minute.

That could change if Arsenal sign a few top players though.

it was massive ...but at the same time it shouldn't mask how many issues we still have . to be a top team we would need at least a new centre back, two new fullbacks and probably 2 mids . But obviously that is unrealistic and not going to happen . But we should be able to cut out and address some of the mistakes we keep making. how come these things don't change , what do we do in training ?

An excellent start to the season for me:

Did the 1st team new boys make a good start? Check
Did the new keeper keep a clean sheet? Check
Did we manage to win a game at home against a well-organised defensive side for once? Check
Did Coutinho look like he'll carry on his meteoric rise? Check
Did Sturridge slip straight back into goalscoring after injury and 2 weeks training? Check
Did Lucas look back to his best? Check

Particularly chuffed with Toure - if he plays like all that for most of the season we're in business at the back.

3 points, a winnable game away against Villa next, the prospect of some exciting additions still to come - Fuck Yeah!

I love it when a keeper saves a pen and then spends the next 10 seconds telling everyone else to piss off and concentrate and get ready.

It was time to grind out a result, and as has been said it will really help the team. I couldn't believe our luck when Walters stepped up to take the penalty. His nerves were shot last season, but still they persist with him! Well done to Mignolet, though, he needed that badly after his jittery start. It wasn't nice to see us taking the ball into the corner at Anfield to run down time, but it made sense. Onwards and upwards.

Without impugning Reina, he wouldn't have saved that Walters's strike from open play. The penalty save will have done raised Mignolet's confidence which looked low, certainly gave the whole team spirit a massive shot.

As we know by now, a win is a win is a win! Onwards, and upwards.

Well it's a relative position, and given that we've had a problem for years in the last few minutes of a game and retaining possession, it was relatively nice to see.

I was expecting Charlie Adam to take -- and convert -- the spot kick, effectively stabbing us in the heart.

If we had a player like (brazilian) Fred, I would say the score would've been very different.

Possibly, but it did feel like a lot of the moves were more a product of pace and agility by Coutinho/Sturridge/Aspas than positioning.

It was a game where we dominated possession but still allowed good goal scoring opportunities, including a penalty.

We could have put it to bed earlier, or we could have lost.

It's exactly the same as much of last season, if you want to draw conclusions based on a single game. But if it's not, and we are just shaking out nerves, then this will take some of the pressure off to allow us to gel.

I think you can afford to be a little more positive. New signings have slotted in seamlessly, we play some excellent and entertaining football, we kept a clean sheet, and we won at home on the opening day of the season for the first time since 2001.
