He's been fucking shit for years and yet commands a £300.000 week salary. Looks like the writing is on the wall for the shrek pug looking twat. He'll be gone in January no doubt and from reading other MUFC websites they couldn't be more pleased. China is my bet but I wouldn't rule out Galaxy or some other shit house team. I'm gutted. I loved watching the useless lump punch above his (over) weight for years at Utd and basically be completely shit. Oh well. Thoughts?

When Rooney first burst onto the scene like an exploding pustule, he looked like he could go on to be something really special, partly I guess because he was a regular in the Premier League at such a young age.

I think he's actually wasted himself a fair bit though. For all the England appearances and goal scoring record, he's always comes across as a real streaky player to me. He'll play great for a couple of games, he'll eat pies for a couple of games - rinse and repeat.

Great player on his day, but I think when his career is looked back at as a whole we'll see that it wasn't his day more often than not.

He was a great signing for United, £30m for an 18 year old who went on to score 250 goals and win 5 league titles and a European Cup in 10 years is fantastic.

Problem is, it would seem that the last gigantic contract he got was far, far too generous for a player in such decline, although it's understandable why they gave it to him at the time.

But now it looks folly.

I don't know, I remember a lot of people calling it at the time. He was very very lucky with the timing of it all.

Come on now. He never lived up to the insane hype he got but he was a very good player and enjoyed a great career. Shit for England mind.

Indeed. His record is amazing but I feel he has stood on the shoulders of taller men. There's no need to get into a Manc wankathon but we all know who they are and how they contributed to Rooney and his accalades. Talented youth (no doubt). Wasted talent for the rest. £300,000 is fucking laughable for such a 10 Yr over the hill bellend. He'll go down as a disapointment given his obvious youthful potential.

And yeah fucking shit for England.

I said I understood it. That's all.

He was loudly questioning the club's ambition, asked to leave, and then Moyes arrived needing to make a statement of intent, plus he couldn't be seen as the manager who 'lost' their biggest player

He played it beautifully

And that's partly the reason he's now getting it in his thick neck from his own fans and the media

Wasted talent? He's almost the top scorer in United and England history and won 5 league titles and a European Cup

The hype around him may have led some to believe (maybe even himself) that he was going to be the worlds best player, but you can't say he wasted his career

So he wasn't as good as Messi or Ronaldo? No shame in that

Yeah he played in a dominant quality side under a phenomenal manager, which someone like Gerrard didn't always have, but it's not fair to rubbish him

He's been one of the best signings they ever made

It's just the last two years that have tarnished his legacy

As I said - He stood on the shoulders of better players and managers. As you say no harm in that and his record is very good. I wonder how he would have been at Stoke or West Ham?

Current contract is 300k per week going to summer of 2019. Mancs will have to come up with a monster payoff for him to leave in January or anytime soon.

I hoped his decline would be less obvious. It's been clear for 4-5 years that he wasn't the player he was, but United have stuck by him and paid him more and more. I was hoping he would continue to score 12-15 goals a season, be decent at times, shit at others and largely keep the fan base and club content. The worry now is they'll sell him and invest that money in a player who does warrant it.
.

Yeah, the decline has been obvious for a few years now. 300k for 3 more years. Christ.

Where will he go anyway? Another PL team? Doubtful. China? Yeah, can see him rocking it there, not.

Doesn't strike me as the global wanderer type.

Closest he's been to China is probably the Tai Pan

I wonder if this shows how worried Mourinho is by their current situation. If they were flying high, might he have taken the line of least resistance and continued to indulge Shrek?

He can't go back to Everton now. I suspect the only option in England is to join Wilshere at Bournemouth, but that would involve taking too big a hit in the wage packet. Brendan could take him to Celtic. He'd cruise around there. Other than that he'd surely struggle anywhere where he'd need to learn a new language - he's still learning English - so the US would be his best option. Good riddance to the tiresome twit.

That's a very specious argument
It is - But I can be a shallow guy, blinkered with a hatred with Utd and have always been a hater for Rooney. Immature and specious argument for sure. I stand my position though that Rooney is an overated fuckwit who's best days were 6-7 years ago.

Well, can't argue with that.

I've never hated Rooney quite as much as might be expected given, well, everything. I can't even explain why.

(I still hate him, obviously).

I think his best bet is to hope United appoint a weak successor to Mourinho who'll give him another chance due to his reputation and contract, someone like Giggs.

Isn't he on parity with the highest earner at the club ( Hence rise to 300k when they signed Ibrahimovic )? Also, don't forget the golden £1 mill per year for life as club ambassador he has to look forward too from them.

Or Sam Allardyce. What a dream team those two would be
th

I don't think he's finished but he's certainly not anywhere near where he was.
As some have said he's streaky, if he scores one he'll bang in a 5/6 and everyone will go back to normal.

As Brendan has said he's had a sublime career both for Utd and England.
To say anything else is laughable.

When you look at what happened with Fowler and Owen he's done well to get this far at a big club for so long considering he's always been a bit big

Would the Everton supporters want him back?

The new owner might as a sign of intent, but can't see Koeman wanting him, as others have said he will probably end up in the MLS.

Maybe it's the shit for England bit that colours my opinion. I don't watch many Man Utd games for obvious reasons, but I see a talented player who showed it in flashes when I think back to what I've witnessed.
