Is being tested in the World club championships.
First penalty decision made.

Needs to be more effective. Just takes too much time from the game imo.

Is it true what I read that they bought the decision back after playing on after the incident for about a minute? Don't like that at all if thats how it'll work.

Well the ref on the pitch shouldn't have to view the replay. Let the video ref call it.

4th official should review it and advise the ref.. Then it's the refs discretion to award it.. Same as when a linesman calls a foul etc etc..

Ah jaysis lads, it's a video replay. If you want accuracy it's going to of course take at least 2 mins. This is what people wanted. Plus it's just the first time

I think they have to do what others have said and let a separate video ref review it and advise. I guess the referee wouldn't have to follow his call but he'd be hard pressed to explain why he thought his one look at it trumped the opinion of another official looking at video review.

While it might remain his decision by the letter of the law, the reality is he would have to go with what the video ref said.

I think they should have the hockey system where you get two free chances to ask for a video replay, and if your appeal is successful you get another chance.

In hockey, at least in Sweden, I think for each round a group of video refs are sitting together and make the calls for all games, not one ref per game. Cost efficient, but kind of removes the responsibility for poor desicions on the video evidence as well (that also happens)

It'd make things pretty interesting if they queued all the goal related decisions until the end of the match then applied them.

Match finishes 3 - 2
2 penalties awarded to the away team
1 away team goal disallowed

Final score 3-3

You couldn't be sure of any result

Pathetic the way it was applied. Just ask Rugby Union to run it for them since they seem to be incapable.
Video Ref. should call it immediately (instant replay should take no more than 30 secs) - no need for any delay and no need to defer to the ref.. Why ? It's not a dictatorship, linesmen make calls too.

Ah jaysis lads, give them a chance to evolve and get it right. It's the first time. And it's just the WCC.

It should only be used for marginal offside calls. If pundits or viewers can't agree on penalties, how will videos help referees on ambiguous decisions?
