Emanuelsson. Our next left back?

Hopefully!

I know it's only rumours but he's a great prospect.

Liverpool poised to land Dutch international on free

Liverpool are being heavily linked with a free transfer move for Ajax full-back Urby Emanuelson.

The Dutch international defender's contract talks have broken down at the Amsterdam Arena, leaving agent Brian Berkleef to hint that the player could leave the club for free in the summer.

Roy Hodgson is thought to have targeted the 24-year-old as competition for Paul Konchesky at Liverpool, and the player's versatility as a potential left winger is also thought form part of the Merseyside club's interest.

“There are plenty of interested clubs. I won’t confirm or deny any names though. However, I’ve told interested teams that Urby won’t leave Ajax during the winter transfer window,†said Berkleef.

The news means that Liverpool could sign the player for free on a pre-contract agreement in January, meaning he would move to Anfield in the summer.

Emanuelson joined the famous Ajax academy in 1994, and worked his way through the youth system before making his debut as a teenager in 2005.

Capped 11 times by Holland, the player is not short of experience with well over 200 appearances in the Eredivisie, Champions League, and Europa League.

New Liverpool owners NESV have promised the manager a transfer war chest in the region of £35 million, and Hodgson is thought to have targeted 'five or six' players for moves in the opening month of 2011.

Dutch paper De Telegraaf link a host of European clubs with a move for Emanuelson, but Liverpool are thought to be at the front of the queue for the talented player.

He's no fullback. He's an appalling defender, which is why Ajax have moved him into the LW spot in recent years and he looks much better for it.

He'll be replacing Babel.

Didn't want to start a new thread....so i'll put this here.

Ryan et all..

How are the Aussies Mathew Leckie and Tommy Oar playing at the moment?

Will they make it in a top league?

I don't know anything about the lad but he seems to have a long list of teams pursuing him which is an indication of some talent.

Tommy Oar's at Utrecht is he not?

As for Leckie, Adelaide have been playing well. He scored against Melbourne Heart (my team) earlier in the season but I couldn't tell you much else.

Over the years I've posted on a number of occasions this clip of him doing a bit of skill on the touchline to beat a man... if someone did that in a Liverpool shirt, I'd love him forever.

I'd rather we didn't spend 35m on 5 or 6 players.

Can't we just buy two shit hot first team players and hope darby et al keep up the form?

He won't have to be very good to be significantly better than 90% of our left backs over the last 30 years.

Harkness
Traore
Konchesky
Vignal
Aurelio
Dossena
Bjornebye
Insua
Dicks

Even some of the better ones like Beglin, Staunton & Warnock weren't good enough for a team with title pretentions.

I think that's harsh on aurelio.

He's a fantastic footballer, its just his body is crocked.

When fit though I don't think he's ever had a shocker

I don't think he plays at left-back anymore. He's apparently been used exclusively as a left-winger for a while now a'la N'zogbia. Scored 8 goals last season which should indicate that he's been pretty good there too.

On a completely unrelated note, Ajax's first choice left back is called Vurnon Anita.

Oar's shit. Don't get your hopes up.

Leckie fucked his knee two weeks ago against Victory, so he's out at the moment. He's joining Moenchengladbach in the next few months anyway.

I've watched a fair bit of him especially over last Season and this is from an earlier post of mine:

Urby Emmanuelson, can blay both as LB and as LW - error-prone but boy he's got talent. Pacy, skillful and eye for the goal as well. We shouldn't pay over the top but he could be a good squad player who can cover two positions on the left. Did I mention he got pace?

Emanuelson Turns Gretarsson

Urby is quality, and that is what our team needs currently. Him down the left is much better than Jova, Maxi, Babel

Shat....i was hoping for those two to play left and right wing for Australia to good effect. Plenty of pace and dribbling skill there. Leckie is a strong lad too. ..

They have still got time surely? It's just that all the other Australia prospects are very useless.
