I was listening to a very good radio debate about the new govt policy on reducing benefits for unemployed who refuse a job in any field.
There was a lady on the show stating she supported it and said regardless of your original trade you should accept any job whilst you are searching for a new role in your chosen field. She said why should the govt pay for you to be on the dole waiting for you next chosen career post.
Two particualar callers interested me, one was a student who had just recieved a top degree but has failed to get work in the chosen field. He said why should he accept any old job, like a supermarket or McDonalds when he is highly educated in his field, he should be allowed to claim benefits until he gets his preferred job.
A second guy said the same sort of thing because he has been in a top earning job for 20 yrs and has a big house and high costing lifestyle and benefits cover his mortgage ETC. If he took a minimum wage job it would not cover his life costs.
Where do you stand on this?
I personally would clean toilets rather than be on the dole and if I had to sell my house to downsize for a few years then so be it.
