Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena has repeatedlyly voiced his desire to return to Italy and this summer Napoli had shown a keen interest in the player, but, according to the player's agent Federico Pastorello, the deal is dead in the water.

"With the directors of Napoli I have not had contact for ten days, it is logicial to think that when we have not spoken for so long, the negotiations is defined as over," he told PianetoAzzurro.it.

"When you want a player, certain steps have to be taken that have not been made here. Obviously, they have a different objective or have decided to forgo the purchase of an outside left [defender]."

"We had spoken to the Rossoneri a long time ago, but they have not shown any interest in the player," he revealed in conclusion.

Last week, the Italian international had claimed he was "waiting for a better contract offer" from the southern Italian outfit, but it appears they have given up on signing the ex-Udinese player.

part of the deal for aquallani with Roma ..? something I heard...

Riise is rumoured to be on his way back to the prem after a unsuccesful spell with them...

Apparently according to italian media.. aquallani is pretty much a done deal... so could be a plausable option (on Talk sport earlier)

I am interested to know why the media think Aquaman is a done deal?Noone from LFC or Roma have said a word. Surely if it was nailed on they would make it public whether it's dependent on Alonso going or not. Would Aquaman even pass a medical if he isn't fit?

There would be absolutely no sense in doing that at all.

I don't understand Del. Why not say to the public it's a deal dependent on the sale of Alonso. What is wrong in that?

our options at left back at;
insua - largly unproven
aurelio - made of glass

Depends which end of the telescope you're looking through. Every young player at the start of his career, like Insua, is "largely unproven" - he can still be good enough, and I'm confident Insua is. Aurelio's injury record isn't the best, but this player supposedly "made of glass" still managed a fair few games last season. Dossena is not up the job, period, and we could do with him off the wage bill. Apart from anything else we might then be able to spend the money on somebody who CAN cut it in the Prem.

Cos then we're making it clear we're reliant on Xabi going to get cash in & other transfers are waiting on it. RM are then in the stronger bargaining position.

I still think Dossena could prove us all wrong and I have absolutely no reason for that.

Those goals against Real and ManUre did make me wonder if he might be better suited to a more attacking LM role, as I always thought JAR was. He's never played there at top level though (I wouldn't pick him ahead of Uncle Albert anyway), and at LB I'm afraid I can't see him ever cracking it.
