BTW I didn't know this, but Klopp has mentioned it a couple of times that most right-footed RB's prefer the left side of the CB partnership. I remember Lovren looked better at LCB than RCB and Kabak did too. I don't think it's a huge factor, but something to keep in mind – when VVD is back, surely Kabak or whoever is going to partner him will have to jot back over to the right, where they might be a little more exposed.

Isn't £18m alot of money to our club / FSG ?

I think he's looking promising , for me he hasn't got to lift his levels too far beyond where they are now to be a permanent addition to the club.

Simultaneously we need to re-evaluate our value from Matip , who knows how vvd & Gomez will come back , it's unlikely they'll be as imperious (long term ) as they were prior to being crocked for so long , so we need reliable , fit players to be in and around the first team squad , no more re-runs of this season where 'bad luck' had trashed our season

Another way to look at it, if he does well in the next 10 games and demonstrates he can cut it in the EPL, his value will probably rise well above £18M – so we could exercise the option to buy him only to immediately sell to another club and help us fund the purchase of someone like Konate or another first-choice CB. Kind of like what Real Madrid did with Morata.

I think we'd need a fourth choice, assuming we ditch Matip.

Going into the season with VVD, Gomez, Kabak & Matip would still leave me nervous, unless we get more confidence around Williams/Nat/Koumetio. I suspect Nat will be sold (maybe for at least 50% of the fee we will spent on Kabak - which would be great Edwards work) and Rhys out on loan again.

Matip will be 30 years old when he returns for the next season. So I expect him to be here as Klopp loves Matip but I dont know what to expect of him. Because we will still have Ben Davies and Nat as 5th and 6th choice defenders. Suddenly we sound so rich.

This is a good problem to have, the last couple of performances have been promising.

Any of the defenders we field alongside Virgil tend to look good but which of them could step up for the big man in an emergency? Matip could but he’s made of lettuce, Gomez and Kabak aren’t at that level (yet?).

I’ve no idea what the clubs plan is but come august there’s way too many faces fighting for two spots. Klopps going to have to be more brutal with the squad than we’ve seen him be. I really hope an indestructible partner for Virgil is the priority.

Since we will have either Mbappe or Haland next season, I would say Klopp will rotate all 6 of them to keep them healthy for the end of the season so we can win games just by outscoring everyone in our path.

we could pioneer the 7-0-3 formation

He's looked good some games, he's looked bad some games... so I'm withholding judgement until at least the end of the season.

I think most people would be pretty proud if that was their match highlight reel.

Too early to say for certain but there is clearly a lot of natural ability to work with isn't there. Just 20 yrs old. I think for the money (£18m isn't it) there can't be many better CB prospects around and it's clear we aren't stopping there.

Klopp's comments make it seem like VvD, Gomez and Matip will all be here next season ... unless he is just saying that to build up their confidence before letting at least one go. I can see Phillips and Davies going in the Summer, hope Davies gets a game or two before he's gone. However it seems like that French lad could join Kabak and our established three.
Matip is gone... Its been said he wants to leave because his body can't take the intensity of the PL and Klopp's training. Hope we find a buyer. Do we have room for Kabak,Nats, and 1 more top class CB unless he can also play on the Right?

You can tell the truth without the clickbait headlines.

That’s just media shit. Sentiment is right though. The idea that we were mentality monsters has been proven to be way off the mark. We were superb but this years slump has as much to do with our mentality as anything else.

Is there any other team any where in Europe that could have maintained form with their CBs all out by Jan? The rotation to the front line was not possible because the key alternative was injured. The clubs best midfielders were parachuted in defence and consequently the balance and shape of the squad was lost. Lets not forget the number of key decisions that went against us. How do you stay +ve after that?

We’ve been beaten some of the worst sides in the league with 6/7/8 of our champions playing. 100% mentality has been way off this year. Not saying it isn’t understandable but it shows they aren’t anywhere near as mentally strong as claimed imho.

We’ve lost to fucking Brighton, Burnley, Fulham, Southampton and drew with West Brom.

There is no way anyone can say our mental approach to these games wasn’t pathetic.
We just can’t get motivated this year unless it’s a big game.

We are complacent after winning the league, the desire isn’t there and we just don’t want it more than other teams in some games.

A huge part of being ‘mentality monsters’ is wanting it more than everyone, every single time all the time.

By trying to appear clever by using phrases like "by the by" but ending up in a clusterfuck car wreck of spelling and looking like a bit of a dick?
Didn’t like the play on the word buy, by using the other spelling ‘bye’ 😀 my work here is never appreciated!

Why do you care what Carra says about Liverpool anyway, arent you more concerned about what Neville and Keane says about your favourite team?

Bye the bye much like Matip and Gomez I think he’ll look fucking amazing beside VVD
Bye the bye if you stuck a headless gimp in a stained towling dressing gown beside VVD, they would look ............................

The last two games we pushed the high line back a couple of yards and behold Kabak has shown his strength of reading the game and tackling without committing a faul .
So basically in a high line he is too slow and once a through ball comes in he will be beaten for pace.
