I don't think he is good enough for the bench and Gomez should play there instead. Come Jan I think we need better and it should be the top priority position ie LB. I am not sure how Salah will feel, but Salah got over bitter twisted Lovren, he can get over his Greek Gyro leaving

He’s only got to get through 5 months then he’s off on his own journey anyway.

Left back is a huge concern for me. In every other position we looked decent with at worse a steady Eddie as back-up. Robertson has really dropped off and Tsimikas is even worse.

What has he done wrong now? Did I miss the part when Bowen had him on toast all night? Did he put us in danger with catastrophic errors? Wasn’t it Bradley that got caught and the one being beaten by his winger? Besides being far too high for Milan’s goal I’m not seeing what he’s doing so wrong to be hung, quartered and drawn.

We won 5-1, the OG we conceded had nothing to do with him….this seems all a bit unnecessary.

Alphonso isn’t signing a new deal at Bayern and his contract is up in the summer, tell the cunt to get negotiating for him in Jan.
Lol... There's no evidence to suggest Hughes could sign a Birthday card let alone sign players. Alphonso is going Real, its not worth the time. They have a database of LBs, its about opening the purse and buying the player

LB isn't a position I'm worried about us solving, there are plenty of options out there and fullbacks generally don't cost as much as a midfield or forward player.

Alphonso or Di Marco would be the dream but you also have;

Nuno Mendes will only have 12 months on his deal in the summer, through 40m at PSG.

Udogie might decide it's time for a move, he'd be a good addition.

Ait nouri seems to be one that split opinions on here, some really like him and others don't.

There is also the Salah factor - would you really sell Mo’s best friend? I guess you would if he was awful, but he is still mostly OK for a back-up.

Robertson has been back to his best after carrying an injury for 5 months last season, Gomez can comfortably play left and no doubt Bradley can fill in too if needed.
Replacing Robertson can wait til summer or even beyond that.

You think Gomez will be happy being the utility player on the bench?

The thing with Tsimikas is, he needs a run of games before he starts to perform - he just looks a little off the pace - which is hardly surprising when he plays so infrequently.

But… he works hard for the team and accepts his role as a backup without grumbling in public (like Gomez) - and that’s a good thing.

Robbo looks much better this season since he’s not carrying injuries.

LB isn’t a priority this season - I think we’re fine and well stocked for cover - probably get another season out of Robbo before he started to get less games.

I’m more concerned about a replacement for Endo or whether Quansah is up to the job of replacing Konate if/when he gets injured.

I thought Klopp generally overused Robbo and underused Tsimikas even when rotation seemed logical – I don’t think under the old boss Tsimikas starts vs Milan, for example. Slot rightly wants to give Robbo more consistent rest, but this also means we get to see more of Tsimikas’s mistakes, who like @StevieM pointed out can only reach anywhere near Robbo’s level after a run of games. Hopefully he will be able to build up his level as the season progresses because I thought he was pretty mediocre against West Ham and could have cost us (no pun intended) a goal in that game too.

For me Robertson has started the season brightly with more pace and general athleticism than last year. He recently said this is the first time he's played without pain for 7-8 months and you can see that on the pitch.

I'm pretty done with Tsimikas. With Robbo getting on, LB was an obvious area to invest this summer but we predictably did fuck all. There's too many rash mistakes in Tsimikas, he has no pace and his crossing, which looked great a few years back, has not been consistently produced. He's been a decent enough signing but at the same time has never posed a credible threat to Robertson.

Miguel Gutierrez at Girona. Real have an 8 million buy-back on him, but they're supposed to be getting Davies on a free. 35 million is the release clause for Gutierrez for other clubs. That's a deal we should be all over if Real don't trigger the buy-back

Tsimikas is good enough to spell off Robbo for the odd game but has never pushed him for the starting spot.

Robbo has bounced back a bit this year but is clearly on the back side of his career and we need to be looking for his successor.

I don't want to see us buy a cheap backup left back. We need to figure out who starts for us there for the next five years.

I think there is an over-reaction on Tsimi that is unwarranted. The last time he had to step in for Robbo for a quite a few games last season before he got injured against Arsenal away - he was playing exceptionally well, but I also recall he had a bumpy one or two games and then became very consistent and excellent. It is unusual for players to just come in from the cold and be top notch suddenly - and given that he won't get that many games if Robbo stays fit - he is the best we have and more than good enough if given a run. Also if we have someone who is as good as Robbo was yesterday - that person will not be content holding bench. You all saw the look on Szobo's face when he was subbed yesterday for Jones right ? - we can pretend everything is nice and Rosy but I suspect it is not - players want to fucking play.

I really like the look of Leif Davis at Ipswich. He got 19 assists last season in the Championship, and looks both solid in defence but a big threat attacking.

A Jan raid for him would be a good statement of intent IMO.

Jurgen wasn't fussed on buying Robertson. He wanted Benjamin Mendy (!) who went to City, Ben Chilwell (who was 17-odd at the time so seen as one for the future), or Alex Sandro at Juve (too expensive). Robbo was a scouting team recommendation, and was only signed after we missed out on Mendy because there was money left in the budget and Jurgen was OK with spending it so he'd have some cover for his first choice, Alberto Moreno. And we all know how that worked out.
Against that back-drop, Robbo was not only great value, but a massive upgrade on all the alternatives.

Very good point - I was really pissed off last season when there was talk and people having a go at Robbo. It was the first time I can remember where he has had a longer than usual injury to contend with plus coming back form it - yet people were like "He's fucking shit , we need a new LB" - even in the summer transfer shite - about a left sided CB potentially replacing Robbo - honestly the shite that people talk.

I understand it though. Robbo has worked his bollocks off for years now, and we've seen a few players from the Klopp era drop off the cliff edge as their legs were done (Mane is probably the most obvious example). So the fear with someone like Robbo is what he has to offer if and when his legs have gone. And I understand people worrying that had happened.
But even if that happens I'd still keep him if he'd be willing to be a squad player as he could take over the Milner role as the senior pro who is more important in the dressing room. than on the pitch. Because he won't stand for anyone phoning it in.

100% this. I love Robbo. Massive respect. But he's put in the hard miles and can't do that for 60 matches per year anymore.

I don't think we need to shove him out the door but we do need to think, quite actively, about his successor.

I'd love to keep him on if he's ready to accept competition for his role and push hard to stay in the team while providing valuable leadership in the locker room.
