Trouble in Liverpool

Have they not improved all the road system around anfield? I assumed they had when they did the main stand?

Much as I'd like the stadium to be further improved, I can sympathise with the residents. They haven't had good enough communication with the club, and obviously adding a busy summer to the year won't appeal to many people who live around there. Then again, it literally does go with the territory - whether it's the O2 or Old Toilet or Wembley. But this complaint was always going to be there, so the club was really remiss in not anticipating this decision and finding a way to overcome it.

I have every sympathy for the residents, but surely to fuck, why would you live near a large football stadium if you don't like shit like this? It's not like Anfield is a new stadium. Surely you have to expect shit like this every so often?

One of the councillors made some good points.

He said the only forum to talk to the club had been done online, which alienates some of the older population (who are more likely to complain anyway) & the other residents haven't even had an olive branch like the residents around other stadiums often do. He cited the most common cases of Aintree & other stadiums in residential areas offering free & heavily discounted tickets to the local residents.

I'm pretty sure the club will do some more consultations & meetings, offer some incentives make a few compromises & put it back up to vote. It only lost by one vote, getting one more councillor on board should be as simple as making sure they are a little more sympathetic to local residents worries.

This is the long term plan, & they can't do the Anfield Road expansion without knowing that these plans are viable as a large part of their plans are to enable access to move large pitch coverings & stages in easily.

Yeah but tbf it's moving the goalposts.

It would potentially mean events with thousands of people once or even twice a week during the summer (there are usually none now) & instead of once or twice a fortnight during the season it could be up to three times a week.

That's a massive change.

You may move to a house near an a road knowing its there, but if they then change that to a motorway you'd have every right to be angry. It's not a dissimilar situation.

Ok fair enough, it’s quite extreme. I get that. But still, living near a large football stadium is never going to come without risk of change to circumstances.

It’s not easy for the residents that have been there for many years to sell their houses and move elsewhere. Their lands are worthless compared to other parts of Liverpool.

I made the suggestion of 'Anfield as a venue' when i pitched myself for a role at LFC - good to see it resonated. Shame they didn't want to hire me to help with this and the other initiatives I proposed as part of my interview 🙁

I know that. But they obviously moved there at some point in time. Forgive my ignorance but surely this is something people would consider before moving to such a location? And yes, I understand that many have lived there all their lives. Those are the ones I’d have more sympathy for.

Same thing happened with Stamford Bridge redevelopment. There were thousands of objections. The naivety / arrogance of some on this thread is bewildering.
