Transfer Window frenzy.

The british transfer window opened on 17th May (so a couple of days ago) and closes 9th August.

The World Cup Squads come together on the 27th May, so a week today with the first friendlys taking place on 2nd of June.

So there are 7 days now and 20ish days after the World Cup ends to do ALL of our transfer business.

Would you expect an absolute frenzy of activity this week, given international managers can refuse their players the right to leave the squad to sign transfers. We have just a week to get deals done PRE World Cup.

Maybe a frenzy behind the scenes to finalise deals that will happen after the WC, but I'd be surprised if much actually happens publicly before that. It ought to, but no matter how many negatives are experienced in the past, the clubs and agents still seem to let everything drag on until the window is almost over.

I dont mean just us really.
I mean generally given how little time we all actually have.

The royal we.

Anyone with half a brain would wrap up deals before the world cup, where prices will skyrocket

Ideally we've sewn up fekir already

News that the Fekir is 99% done deal. Also being linked to Anderson Talisca. Shit gonna go down.

Dont want Anderson Talisca.
Fekir and Dembele could be done closely after the CL final if we are serious, given they both are in the WC squad.

It will probably be like last time, quite a few deals now but some clubs will hold out and see if a good WC will increase the fees.

Why not @Hansern? I look at him and think that his guy could give Bobby a break here and there, or operate in a variety of positions. Takes a fucking mean FK. We need depth, and I like the look of him. Gives some aerial presence too- seems to score lots of headers. What's not to like?

I'm thinking Fekir AND Talisca. Imagine your man Talisca in the Bobby role. I think he could slot in there beautifully.

Isn’t a case of one or the other? Can’t imagine we’d go for both.

I think we HAVE to get more than one attacking player. Our biggest problem this season has been a massive drop off when any of the front 3 are absent. Ideally, we have at least 2 top quality signings in that area. Because that is what we need.

Maybe, I might be a bit blinded by his spell at Benfica. Just not been sure of how good he really is, and that his position is quite similar to Fekir. So I would have thought it would be just him, and not Talisca.

The sobering memory - sorry for having them, but they're handy for perspective, like - is of Houllier proudly noting that we'd sorted out the deals for Diouf and Diao before that summer's World Cup. Then, excitedly, we say back and watched the former run offside a record number of times, and the latter get sent off. I guess that's one reason to be patient. Although I have growing trust in this transfer committee/team.

I remember diouf having a good world cup, adding to excitement.

Post world cup we could have paid double

Really??? I honestly can't remember much more than his repeated offsides. Good to know though, as I chronically go from thread to thread comparing all to bygone players.

I thought Diouf was brilliant in the first game in the upset of France. Diao finished one of the best counter-attacking goals in the world cup

Yes, but I remember this better, later, as confirmed from the Guardian report:

El Hadji Diouf, Senegal
Having made a name for himself by making complete fools of Messrs Leboeuf (several times), Desailly and Thuram in Senegal's shock victory against France, Liverpool's new acquisition undid all his hard work in this scrappy, bad-tempered encounter. Terminally offside, Diouf argued, bickered, fought, fouled and whinged his way through the 90 minutes, showing a streak of childish petulance that will surely worry his Anfield handlers.

By the end of the tournament I was really straining to still feel optimistic about him.

I did fall hook line and sinker for Ged's sales patter prior to the World Cup, so it was all a bit of a steep decline in optimism.

We had no reason to distrust him though. He had won the treble the season before. Finished second that summer. Trophies back at Anfield. Positive mood. Signings were spot on for the most case.

If in the unlikely event we were to get Fekir and Dembele, surely that would be the end of Lallana? He has two years left on his contract and we possibly still could get £20m for him.
