From the BBC:
Transatlantic liner's first call
It is the first Liverpool and New York connection since the Sylvania
The first transatlantic passenger liner to call at Liverpool for more than 40 years has docked in the city.
MS Rotterdam, which is carrying 1,300 passengers, arrived at the Pier Head cruise liner terminal on Tuesday morning, having set sail from New York.
Liverpool City Council said the arrival of the 60,000-tonne vessel could lead to regular calls by other liners.
Councillor Gary Millar said the Pier Head terminal, opened in 2007, had brought £13m to Merseyside's economy.
"Last year we welcomed 13 vessels carrying over 16,000 passengers and this year 15 cruise liners will bring in over 23,000 passengers," said Mr Millar.
The Rotterdam, which is the standard bearer of Holland America fleet, is the first liner connecting Liverpool with New York since the Sylvania made the crossing in November 1967.
