Just watching SSN there before work and they mentioned that Ledley King is the last trainee that Spurs have produced to go on to play regularly in the first team.

We don't have a much better recent record than that do we ? Insua didn't come through the academy. So is Gerrard our last find ?

When you look around then United and Chelsea haven't produced anyone of note either. The only clubs that spring to mind as having good records are West Ham and Everton.

Are the new rules going to lead to a power shift at some point down the road ?

Man City had quite a good record until recently, didn't they?

Yup. Ireland, SWP, Onuaha, Richards all came from the Academy.

To be fair Utd have produced alot of players for the first team.....Giggs, Brown, Scholes, Neville, Welbeck, Evans, Fletcher, O'Shea, Gibson,.....and alot who are playing elsewhere...Beckham, Nicky Butt, P.Neville, Richardson, F.Campbell, Bardsley, Shawcross, Danny Simpson, David Healy, Keith Gillespie, McShane :🙂

Danny Guthrie.. was our last trainee to play in the first team...

Ok I know not regularly as stated in the first post.. but even so he was...

Neil Mellor too could be a worthy candidate before Guthrie...

Off the top of my head in the Premier League era:

Owen, Fowler, Gerrard, McManaman, Carragher, Guthrie, Otsemobor, Marsh, Potter, Darby (?), Mellor

and John Welsh at Hull

there's probably more

Welsh never played for Hull, came on for us for 15 minutes against Arsenal in 2003, and played under Rafa a few times in 2004/05.

Darby never played in the league for us, I'm trying to think did John Newby?

Matteo would be another one.

Newby played one league game for us I think.

Back to the original post though, didn't Jamie O'Hara come through the youth team at Spurs?

Nope Arsenal, just like half the premiership.

Palace away in April or May 2005. Lost 1-0, Andy Johnson scored a smelly header. I think he played a few other league games too.

I think Rafa is too cautious about giving the youngsters a run out.

You never know how they will perform at the top level until they get a game.

Spearing has been on the bench a few times lately. I have a hunch that Pacheco would do very well if given a chance. His game is ideally suited to the top level. He's never going to improve it in the reserves.

He was, as was Stephen Wright.

I knew he switched academies from Arsenal to Spurs but wasn't sure if this still counted

I think Guthrie did similar, coming from United to us. Mellor might have been elsewhere at first too, but I am less sure of that.

He was a great little player. Not popular with Houllier though I understand

Yeah could have been. I have no idea. His dad played for Man City though

Tell you what irks...

This 'Everton get all the best scouse youngsters these days, and they've got a much better chance to play for the first-team than they would at Liverpool' chat.

Yes, that's true. Becasue they're fucking shite. Bar Rooney, who was a fat bluenose cunt when he rolled out of his ma's fucking horsegums, they've had no one over the last few years that would have gotten near our first team. It's a reflection of how pish-poor their squad is, how unattractive they are as a club for potential signings, and what fuck all money Moyes has to work with that some of these cunts manage to get in the squad anyway.

Hibbert?
Rodwell?
Gosling?
Vaughan?
Baxter?
Ruddy?

Not one of them would get near our bench. In fact, we'd have fucked them off to Wrexham on loan by now.

'You've got a much better chance of getting regular first-team opportunities at Everton, than you would do at Liverpool'

Yup, doesn't even matter if you're balls either.

He wouldn't get on for us.

No he wouldn't. Does that mean he isn't good enough though? I don't necessary subscribe to the theory that if an amazing player came along he wouldn't get on at Liverpool but I do wonder whether a player who shows promise and might be good enough might develop better at another club.

Fowler and McManaman only got into the first team because Graeme Souness was having terrible injury problems with the first team regulars.

Until they get a chance to perform at the top level, you never know how good they really are.
