Tottenham Hotcunts

I think the sending-off of Nani was one of those borderline incidents that you could argue either way. There was a sufficient area of doubt to enable UEFA to support the referee's decision. Of course in the Premier League, United are rarely on the wrong end of that type of decision, which explains why Fergie was so apopleptic.

As I said before, we've all seen an incident like that in derby games - you take a breath as you know it COULD be a sending off, then sometimes the ref reaches for the red card and sometimes he just talks to the player. You never know. But you DO know it's a potential problem, so all the ludicrous 'shock' being expressed by the mancs and their mates is just nonsense. And today Ginsoak says the ref 'cost' them the game. No he didn't. The ref cost us the game against Milan in the Euro semi final of 1965; the ref last Tuesday just made it harder for a side to hang on to a slender advantage, and in spite of having enough chances afterwards they still bombed out. So a sense of perspective is required, and Ginsoak deserves a ban for yet another bit of casual slander.

I also thought that the Turkish ref showed commendable restraint when a bunch of United players had a go at him after the final whistle, including Rio Ferdinand who applauded sarcastically right in his face. If I had been the ref, I would have given him a yellow card for that at least.

Gylfi Sigurdsson believes Tottenham's Europa League win over Inter Milan showed he was right to join Spurs rather than Liverpool.

Sigurdsson was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer with former Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers keen to secure his services again, but the midfielder instead opted to make the switch to White Hart Lane.

The 23-year-old Icelandic international admits he was tempted to reunite with Rodgers after enjoying working under him during his loan at Liberty Stadium, but he feels Tottenham's success in the Premier League and Europe justified his choice.

Sigurdsson was on target in Tottenham's commanding 3-0 first-leg win over Inter at White Hart Lane and he is now looking forward to coming up against his old boss and former teammate Joe Allen in Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

"It will be really good to play against Brendan Rogers again, and also Joe Allen, who was with me at Swansea," he told www.tottenhamjournal.co.uk.
"How hard was it to turn Liverpool down? It was more that I knew Brendan, other than the history Liverpool have.

"But when Tottenham came in, the way they were last year and in the previous two years... They finished fourth last year and they were unlucky not to get Champions League football, and you could see from this game [against Inter] that this is a great club with fantastic players. I'm really pleased I made that choice."

"Hopefully it's the right decision. It could have been the other way round - we could have been eighth [at this point] and they could have been third or fourth - but I'm really happy with the decision I made.

"This is a club that has got so many good players, and hopefully we can be in the Champions League next season."

Sigurdsson believes he displayed his best form against Inter and hopes to remain a regular in the Tottenham line-up.

"I think it was my best performance for Spurs [against Inter]," he said. "It's been good to get two starts in a row and these are the games you want to play in.

"It was really important to get that first league goal, it gave me a bit of a lift, and now I've got my second European goal.

"It's important for every player to get a run in the team. You see Gareth now, he's got a lot of confidence and he's scoring in every game."

Glad he turned us down, he's shit. I don't know how we've quite managed without his goalscoring prowess.

This is it, I could understand the fury if it was a blatant soft tackle that actually looked worse than it was, but ended up being shown to be fairly tame and innocuous in the replay. It's not that case at all. Someone said he 'didn't know the player was there', he should be aware of where players are when he's going in for a ball, and the fact he felt the need to arch his body back and stick his studs on the ball doesn't really suggest that he was expecting no one to be there and simply attempting to control the ball. It was a dangerous challenge for the ball and it culminated in the player getting a full boot studs first and straight on, it's a foul, intentional or not for starters, and it was dangerous regardless of whether there was any particular malice behind it.

Anyway, what goes around comes around, the sour little twat Fergie told all about how "terrible" Shelvey's tackle was early in the season, so they can eat that.

Karma bitches.

Been looking at the pictures from todays training session, can't tell who will start.
I noticed that Carra wasn't there and Skrtel was back in training.

Personally I want to go all out attack.

-------------------------Reina

Johnson Skrtel/Carra------ Agger Enrique

--------------Lucas-----------Gerrard
------------------------Allen
Coutinho--------------------Suarez
------------------Sturridge

I think Downing will start. He has been playing well and Coutinho is still building up his fitness levels.

Ha! Then the bib theory is about to take a serious hit.

I see AVB is saying Suarez has carried us this season, talk about gigantic stones and glasshouses.

Assaidi starting would be a weird, and imo, bad choice. He's a great runner and all, but he doesn't link up in the passing to the same level as Coutinho or Downing, and that clever movement has won us games this season.

Downing should start, he'll protect Johnson better against Bale.

Exactly. Would it be suicide playing the same side but with Sturridge instead of Allen. It would leave us light in midfield as Suarez would be the one required to track back a bit, but he loves to pressure the ball, so it could work right?

fair point - but isn't that a bit defensive? yes bale is a great player, but we're playing at home and shoudl be playing to win by being attack minded. moreover, downing isn't exactly that great at providing defensive cover so as to warrant a place.

Either way it's going to be difficult stop him and he'll roam anyway, but last year he came straight out the blocks and gave Johnson a nightmare.

Yes he is. Downing always tracks back.

Yep, that has to be the worry, I still think that was down to a lack of protection from the defensive midfielder, as Lucas was out, so hopefully with him being in, it'll help Johnson somewhat.

lucas+johnson could contain bale. i would rather see a front three of sturridge, coutinho and suarez. Make Spurs think of our attacking prowess and have lucas/henderson on constant alert to protect johnson. we need to be on the front foot, otherwise it becomes the bale show.

I'd take that aswell, we just need to be clever though, I agree re Lucas and Hendo, I really hope Joe Allen doesn't start.

Allen has played two good games in a row and looks like he is about to regain his form and performance level.
If he starts, he'll do a very good job. But, He'll be swapped with Sturridge imho, from the team that beat Wigan.
