Okay maybe I come on to strong.. point I am making he left Athletico to win things at club level. Must be a dream to win things with your boyhood club, Gerrard is the prime example. But to see it happen after you left, you would have some regret despite your recent success at international level.

Nope, they played one season together at Atleti.

The money for Torres was used to help fund the signings of, if I remember correctly:

Simao - roughly 20M euros
Jose Reyes - roughly 15M euros
Diego Forlan - roughly 20M euros

And they didn't pay those fees up front to Villareal, Real Madrid and Benfica.
