I really hope Rafa's still planning to bring a decent alternative to Torres before the season kicks off. Kuyt, as good as he's been on the right, simply lacks the pace to play the lone striker role in our system on a regular basis and against the better teams. N'Gog is obviously still too raw. Voronin, well I know what most of you think of him....

So do we blow the rest of our transfer kitty (presuming we still have 20m lying about) on a genuine alternative to Torres and forget about Silva? Or do we go after a cheap bench-warmer? An ageing proven star or a young starlet?

I'd be happy with Tuncay for about 7m. He's got some pace, would work incredibly hard, has quality with the ball at his feet, and at 28 we'd get a few years out of him.

Agreed....and you know Kuyt will start some games as a lone striker. I'm not sure why Rafa has not planned to replace Keane. We haven't even been linked with anyone, so it's looking doubtful. More likely is for Rafa to sign an attacking midfielder like Silva...Sig, Villa would be nice too...

i'd rather have canceled voronin's contract than have him here again. says it all when he can't get a move into the german league.

i'd like to see the likes of nemeth be given some pitch time. as for babel he might think he's a striker but upfront on his own his hold up play and work rate just isn't good enough

Luca Toni is supposed to be available, heard he might be going to West ham on loan even, a loan deal would suit us don't to the ground.

I'm sticking with blind faith and hoping Babel comes good.

well toni might help us win the league. voronin wouldn't.

i reckon with the lure of the champions league, his facist mate now here and a chance to play for us he'd come to play for us on loan for 70k a week. better than signing someone shit with a 2 or 3 million signing on fee and 35k a week.

I think the role of replacing Torres when injured/rested is something that Babel should have been groomed for over the last 2 years unfortuantely Rafa hasnt done this and it looks as though he prefers Ngog for that job, shame really as I think Babel is amuch better player

I agree with most of that. I'm pretty sure we won't be signing another striker.

How do you know that?

Voronin has a decent Euro record, N'Gog looks OK for us to a certain level. What is it about this bloke that's so special?
